  • Small family-friendly site on the eastern shore of Lake Annecy
  • At the foot of Mont Veyrier; a 10-minute drive from Annecy
  • Direct access to a beach on the lake; cycle hire available on site
Walks in the forest, climbing the mountains and paddling across the lake… with a location between Lake Annecy and the mountains, Camping Annecy-Veyrier-du-Lac is a base for it all. This small, quiet and family-friendly site is on the eastern shore of Lake Annecy and has direct access to the beach, so watersports and other watery activities are most definitely on the cards. The village of Veyrier-du-Lac is also at the foot of Mont Veyrier, giving you options for more time outdoors, whether it be hiking, mountain biking, cycling or climbing. Helpfully, the site rents out bikes so that you don’t have to waste any time sourcing your own pair of wheels. Annecy itself is only a 10-minute drive from Camping Annecy-Veyrier-du-Lac, so those wanting to spend time in the alpine old town, strolling along the canal or visiting the medieval castle will also have an advantageous base. Hikers, gather around too, as the site has good access to the Grande Traversée des Alpes, a long-distance hiking trail through the French Alps. In terms of facilities, the site has showers and toilets available, as well as a launderette. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the site (including waterfront spots just a few minutes’ walk away) and there’s a family pub 10 minutes’ walk away too. As for picking up supplies, take a stroll to the shop that’s just 200 metres further along the same road as the pub.

Liked: The position! Adjacent to the lake with bars/restaurants close by on the promenade, also direct access to the cycle route around the lake and town.

Disliked: The site needs updating. The toilets and showers were outdated and worn, although clean. The rest of the site looks neglected and just needs tidying up.

Liked: Loved Lake Annecy.

Disliked: Office wasn't open until 4pm to book in so quite late. We were squashed in between so many people with a huge street light type of obstruction right our van. It was ok, the site is right next to the lake with a restaurant which was nice . Show and toilet facilities clean. Quiet campsite until the restaurant generator kicked off at some early time and was quite loud.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked: Lakeside location, near restaurant and bar (though we used neither in our two day stay)

Disliked: Small pitches, on slope. We had just enough room for a campervan and awning, tent pegs bordering the path. No hot water for washing up or washing yourself. No drinking water taps. Toilets up a steep hill and basic - one step on, one toilet-seatless sit on, 2 urinals in the mens. No toilet paper but that doesn’t seem that abnormal in French sites. Reception isn’t open till 4pm (there was no one there when we arrived) and you have to drive to a paying carpark to wait as there’s nowhere to draw up outside. The nearest bins are the municipal ones outside the camp in the said car park, 100 m down the road. Really noisy till 3am Saturday night/Sunday morning. There were much nicer looking campsites further down the east side of the lake.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked: Superb location with direct access to beach. Despite no facility to fill our water in motorhome we loved it so much we extended our stay. Lovely waterfront restaurant next door but not open if raining. Easy access to cycle track all the way to annecy.

Disliked: Very inconvenient not to be able to fill water and dispose of grey water. Luckily there was at least a chemical toilet emptying facility.

Electric optional grass touring pitch

Liked: Small, peaceful and friendly campsite. Direct access to the lake, a plage and lakeside restaurants. 5 min walk to boulangerie and shops. Site was shaded for the most part, useful as it gets hot in summer. The lady that checked us in was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Two different toilet blocks, one was more modern. Good showers, dishwashing and laundry facilities. Worth noting that barrier into campsite is locked between 10pm and 8am, in case you are looking to arrive late or leave early. Access onto segregated lakeside cycle path immediately outside the campsite is very nice also. Nice walks up to nearby mountains also possible directly from the site.

Disliked: Nothing, great place to stay.

Local attractions

As well as swimming in Lake Annecy and climbing, hiking and cycling in alpine foothills, you can up the adrenaline stakes on tandem paragliding and hang gliding jaunts over mountain peaks from Talloires (10 minutes' drive). If you prefer a quieter life, there’s miniature golf in Annecy’s Parc Charles Bosson (also 10 minutes). And of course Annecy (10 minutes) itself is a delightful town with a buzzing shopping scene and a medieval old town lining the Thiou River; have a poke around the cells in the triangular Palais de I'Île (once a prison), and pop into the heritage museum at the hilltop castle. There are lake views from the waterside Jardins de l’Europe, and you can jump on cruises at the Quai de la Tournette. Fancy exploring in a different country? Geneva (45 minutes) is the elegant capital city of Switzerland, with a backdrop of the Alps and famous for the massive Jet d’Eau fountain on Lac Leman. Here, you can tour the Palais des Nations, pop into galleries in the boho Quartiers des Bains and enjoy fondue lunches in traditional auberges in the old town.
