Time to disconnect… perhaps taking time to listen to the birds singing, watch the horses trot about in the neighbouring field, or prep a tasty lunch made with home-grown veg? Camping Les Vernades, a couple of kilometres from Rosières in the southern Ardèche, is just the place for all of this.
Set on a former wine-growing and agricultural estate, this place is a real haven of peace and quiet for guests who’d like to immerse themselves in a rural location. It’s at the end of a quiet little road (so no passing traffic noise), and on the banks of the Baume river (for pretty views and hours of fishing or wildlife watching).
There are paths and trails all around the site to help you get out to explore your surroundings, and plenty of other outdoor activities to try out while you’re here (including canoeing, canyoning, horse riding and mountain biking). Dogs who like a rural ramble are welcome here too, and there’s a green space on site reserved on site for them to have a good run about (it’s even got river access so they can cool their paws).
Getting your day off to a good start should be easy here, as the site has deliveries of pastries and warm bread each morning. Fresh sun-ripened tomatoes grown on site are available to give you a taste of the area’s produce, and you can pick up other food supplies at the shops and supermarkets in Rosières.
Pitches here have plenty of shade from trees, and access to facilities including a playground, a barbecue area and a wifi service.

Electric optional grass and earth pitch
Liked: A great little campsite, super friendly and helpful site owners, toilets and showers have just been updated and are clean, bright and spacious, the pitches are a good size plenty of area to sit and relax.
With its beautiful back drop of Saint-Bonnet-le-Chateau, and surroundings fields, fishing lake and great dog walks, it a perfect place to stay

Local attractions
This is a nifty location for all sorts of outdoor activities – perhaps heading out onto the scenic trails running from Rosières, canoeing along the Chassezac or Ardèche rivers or cycling along the Via Ardèche. A couple of local stables offer horse riding along (and sometimes through) the river, and activity providers can take you further into the Monts d’Ardèche Regional Natural Park for climbing or canyoning adventures.
The Bois de Païolive is a popular place for a walk, especially as it stays relatively cool on summer days, and you can get up into the treetops on the trails at Entertainment Adventure Camp. Both are 25 minutes’ drive away.
A huge highlight of this area is Vallon Pont d’Arc (half an hour), where you can hire canoes to paddle down the river through the Gorges de l’Ardèche to see the huge Pont d’Arc stone arch. Stop by at Grotte chauvet 2 - Ardèche (35 minutes) while you’re here, to see a replica of the UNESCO-listed caves with their ancient wall paintings.
