- 20 minutes' walk from the Gorges du Doux velorail
- Restaurant/bar with outdoor terrace and high season entertainment
Riverside sites are always pretty special, and so it is with Camping Les Berges du Doux, set scenically in a peaceful spot on the banks of the Doux river.
There's loads to do on site for all ages, such as at the pool area where there's a 17-metre pool for the grownups, next to a paddling pool for smaller guests. Family competitions can take place all round the site too, with facilities for playing pétanque, table tennis, table football and pinball. There’s also a sandpit where kids can play while you have a bit of a breather.
For eats, wander over to the site’s restaurant to order from the daily menu or buy an ice cream, or use the two communal barbecues to grill your own dinner. Either way, the bar’s outdoor terrace is the place to be in the evenings, for cool drinks as you listen to live music, play bingo or dance the night away under the stars.
Boucieu-le-Roi, the nearest village, has a couple of classic French bistros for eating out at, about 25 minutes' amble away. There are a few small shops for picking up foodie bits here, or you can take the 20-minute drive to the nearest big supermarket.
Wifi access is free across the site, as are the toilets, hot showers and baby bathroom but there’s a small charge to use the washing machine in the launderette.

Local attractions
A wander round the village of Boucieu-le-Roi should be first on your list – visit the medieval bridge and see the turrets of the Baili House, which was originally occupied by one of the king’s agents. You could also visit the Pierre Vigne Museum, take a look in the 15th-century church and then follow the Stations of the Cross path to find its 35 small chapels and their sculptures.
A popular activity in Boucieu-le-Roi is a ride on the Gorges du Doux velorail, which takes you along a 12-kilometre section of historic railway track carved into the mountain, for fab views of the rock formations, mountain streams and forest scenery.
Also take a ride on the Train de l’Ardèche steam train from Tournon-St-Jean (20 minutes away) or visit the small museum to see some of the engines up close. Drive for a further 10 minutes from there to get to Tournon-sur-Rhône for a visit to the Valrhona Cité du Chocolat to see how the sweet stuff is produced and to see chocolate making in action.
