It's free, quick and easy!
- Family-friendly site five minutes' drive from central Carpentras
- Avignon, Mont Ventoux and vineyards within a half-hour drive
- Free entry to adjacent pool in July and August
Folks with an eye for a bargain, take a look at the free stuff chucked in with a stay at Camping Lou Comtadou (and really, who doesn’t love a good freebie?)
In July and August, as a treasured guest of this family-friendly place in Carpentras, you’ll be entitled to free entry to the swimming pool next door – a huge outdoor complex with an Olympic-sized pool for the serious swimmers, a diving pool for the daredevils and a leisure pool, waterslide, paddling pool and sun terrace for those seeking something more relaxing.
On site there’s more to keep you and yours amused without shelling out any extra pennies – a games room, playground, kids’ club activities, fitness classes and summer evening entertainment that might include live music or alfresco movies. And although it doesn’t offer free grub, the on-site restaurant is a fab option for a good-value, tasty and convenient dinner, and sells fresh bread and pastries of a morning.
And what to do with all those euros you’ve saved? Well, you could invest in entry fees to some of the nearby theme parks, or stock up on local wines in Beaumes-de-Venise. Or you could stick to further frugal activities with walks, bike rides and river swims in the gorgeous Provence countryside (and thus perhaps have enough left over for a further holiday – hurrah).

Local attractions
If the waterslides by the site have given you a thirst for more, head to Splashworld, 15 minutes’ drive away, for more splashing fun. Next door is the Spirou amusement park, newly opened in 2018 with a comic theme designed for ages four and over.
For cultural wanderings, start in Carpentras itself, where there are Roman and medieval sites to be seen. Half an hour away, Avignon is a great place for a day out, visiting the UNESCO-listed Palace of the Popes, seeing the famed bridge and generally poking about in the car-free centre.
Out in the open air, there are lots of lovely walks and bike rides through the lavender fields around Sault or hearty hikes on Mont Ventoux (also home to one of the most challenging stages of the Tour de France for mountain bike types). Too much effort? The vineyards of Beaumes-de-Venise are about 20 minutes’ drive away.
