  • Peaceful family-friendly site in the scenic Pays de Fayence
  • Half an hour from pretty hilltop villages/sandy Mediterranean beaches
  • Pool, Jacuzzi, miniature golf, tennis, volleyball, restaurant and bar
Scenic Var vistas, Mediterranean beaches and Provence vineyards… bliss, right? It’s all within easy reach at the family-friendly Camping Le Parc, a five-minute drive from the Var village of Saint-Paul-en-Forêt in the south of France. This is the Pays de Fayence, where hilltop villages dot the landscape, markets spring up on cobbled streets, and roads wind gently through fields, hills and valleys, so it should come as no surprise that it’s a top spot for explores. Pays de Fayence is famed for its villages and, within 30 minutes, Callian, Seillans, Bargemon and Mons are well worth a visit for pretty buildings and spectacular views (a small shop on site has all the bits and bobs for hillside picnics). There’s plenty on site to keep hours filled when a day in one spot is needed: there’s a playground and an outdoor fitness area for staying active, and competitive families can have a mini Olympics on the miniature golf course, tennis courts and volleyball court, or with a game of boules. During high season, a kids’ club will bring a few moments’ peace for harried grownups, and the pool, paddling pool and Jacuzzi will help everyone cool off – plus there’s a handy snack bar next to the pool in July and August, so it’s an easy few steps for pizzas and fries, or to be first in line for the themed dinners of mussels, paella or couscous.

Local attractions

Beach hols beckoning? A 35-minute drive to Fréjus should satisfy – the resort town has a couple of stretches for swims, sandy strolls and sunbathing, and there's a waterpark, zoo and some fab Roman remains to explore away from the sands. If beaches entice but salty waves don’t, head instead to Lac de Saint-Cassien, 15 minutes away, for sandy expanses, hikes, sheltered coves and pedalo and canoe rental – or stay on dry land with wanders in Préalpes d’Azur Regional Natural Park (25 minutes) and along the stunning Gorges de la Siagne, or with clambers through the largest canyon in Europe at the Gorges du Verdon, less than two hours away. Thrillseekers can get adrenaline pumping by throwing themselves out of a plane at the international skydiving centre 10 minutes down the road, while families can keep things more kid-friendly with less high-altitude adventures on the rides at Magic World amusement park an hour and a half away. Fancy a drink or seven? The site’s an hour and a half from Clos Cibonne, the start of the Terroir la Londe wine route, so make sure there’s a designated driver in tow…
