It's free, quick and easy!
- Family-friendly site on the outskirts of Laragne-Montéglin
- Surrounded by natural parks for hiking and outdoor activities
- Restaurant with table d'hôte dinners and live music nights
Hiking boots looking a little forgotten and forlorn? Dust them down and give them the workout they deserve by treating them to hols at Camping de Montéglin.
This fably located spot is almost entirely encircled by natural parks – it’s on the edge of the Baronnies Provençales Regional Natural Park and there are a further six (oui, six) within an hour’s drive, giving guests some several hundred kilometres of trails on which to stretch their legs. Outdoorsy antics aren’t limited to the hikers, bien sûr – there’s plenty of scope nearby for cycling, climbing, horse riding, canoeing and paragliding, along with a lovely lake beach when it’s time for a well-earned rest.
Lest the ‘love a bit of nature, but what about dinner’ folks are starting to get jittery, it’s worth noting that Camping de Montéglin is just outside the small town of Laragne-Montéglin, putting restaurants, a supermarket, a bakery and a deli all within a short walk.
Back at base there’s a communal barbecue area for the cheffing types, and a restaurant that serves up table d’hôte dinners and hosts live music nights in summer. There’s also heaps of space for les enfants to play in, with a trampoline for the bouncy ones and board games for the quieter ones. Weary walkers will likely be chuffed to see the presence of a swimming pool for cooling dips, with a slide and paddling pool to keep the small folks happy.

Local attractions
It’s all about fresh-air frolics around here. There’s much to do in the Baronnies Provençales Regional Natural Park; for a change of scenery it’s less than an hour’s drive to get to the Écrins National Park, the Luberon Regional Natural Park or one of the region’s other designated nature areas.
Locally, the seven-kilometre hike to the Gorges de la Méouge is highly recommended – there are some lovely marked trails to follow when you get up here, along with swimming spots where you can dive in for a cooling dip. Freshwater swims can also be had at Lac Riou, five kilometres away, where there’s a beach area and games to play.
Canoe trips on the Durance river leave from Tallard, a half-hour drive away, and there’s a bike park 10 minutes away for those who fancy hurtling down hills on quad bikes or scooters. And if you’ve ever fancied seeing it all from high up above, here’s your chance – there’s a paragliding centre just next door to the site.
