  • Family-run, family-friendly site on the banks of the river Loup
  • A 45-minute drive from the beaches of the French Riviera
  • Summertime programme of activities and entertainment for all ages
If you’re of an indecisive nature when it comes to picking the most merveilleux holiday surrounds, Camping Les Rives du Loup has such a splendid setting that you’ll dither not a jot while you’re here: a river lies right next door, the site is on the outskirts of the Préalpes d'Azur Regional Natural Park, and the smashing seaside settlements of Nice, Antibes and Cagnes-sur-Mer are all within 45 minutes’ drive. Such a convenient setting is that of the family-friendly site of Camping Les Rives du Loup, in France’s Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, that you’ll have a whole heap of active and sightseeing options at your fingertips, from seaside family day trips to wanders around museums of fine art, aquariums and historic city old quarters, and outdoor pursuits such as hiking, climbing, canyoning and caving. The site's owners, originally from the north of England, have been running the place for more than 30 years and have created a splendidly warm and welcoming international atmos for their guests. Leisure days on site will likely centre primarily around the outdoor pool and its roomy solarium – when not wading about in the big pool, grownups can stretch out on a sun lounger with a book and a carefree attitude and survey the goings on of their littlies’ splash time at the neighbouring paddling pool, or if you and the fam would rather swim and splash au naturel, then the site’s direct river access shall surely come in handy. When you and they are done and dusted with watery antics, point them in the direction of the playground or the multisports pitch for games of football, basketball, volleyball, badminton or tennis while you take it nice and easy with a few gentle rounds of pétanque… Also splendidly, summer at the site heralds a packed program of activities for kids and adults, consisting of sports tournaments for bouts of friendly family rivalry, guided walks and excursions during the day, and karaoke sessions, barbecues and themed events in the evenings. During high season, on-site sustenance comes in the form of continental breakfasts, lunches and à la carte or set menu dinners of tasty local eats at the snack bar-restaurant; outside of this, further scoffing stuffs can be sourced at the on-site mini market – to find it, just follow the scent of freshly baked bread wafting through the site, for you can order breads from here to be delivered the next morning too. Off site, a bakery and a small supermarket lie in the park’s local village of Le Bar-sur-Loup, 10 minutes' drive away, and a larger supermarket can be reached by car in 15 minutes.

Local attractions

Outdoorsy sorts have tons of ways to get out and about around here. Practise your paddling in the river next to the site, or head to the Gorges du Loup, six kilometres from base, for hiking, climbing and canyoning. Also little further afield (but not too far) are Riviera Nature tree-climbing and adventure park and guided tours around the spectacular chambers of Saint-Cezaire Cave. Meanwhile, in the city of Grasse – the perfume capital of the world – are museums galore, plus gardens and an old town too. For a mix of museum-based sightseeing and beachside days, head to Cagnes-sur-Mer to wander the exhibits of the Renoir museum and the ethnographic museum of the olive tree and the museum of modern Mediterranean art at Château Grimaldi, and round off the day with a sandals-off stroll along the sand. More historic architecture and museum exhibits can be found over in Nice (the Matisse museum is well worth a trip to), while Marineland aquarium, the Picasso museum and the botanical gardens all await over in Antibes.
