Shaded by the tall maritime pines and holm oaks of the Forêt de Suzac, Ideal Camping has spacious pitches on the outskirts of the seaside resort of St-Georges-de-Didonne, in the Charente-Maritime department. What’s your pleasure? Sandy beaches, perhaps? Then you'll be pleased to hear that the long crescent of Plage St-Georges-de-Didonne is only 200 metres away. You can unfurl your towel and relax on the golden sand as soon as you arrive – or, if you feel active, walk (or cycle) to the lighthouse at the northern end of the beach, then continue on past the headland to another sandy beach at Royan. Whatever you do, it pays to stay at the beach until early evening, as there's often a spectacular sunset. There’s also plenty to do on site, starting with a waterpark with pools (including a paddling area), slides and a Jacuzzi. Kids can also let off some steam in the well-equipped playground, or challenge their mates at the ping-pong table or on the multisport field. During peak season, the site also runs a lively entertainment programme with such activities as boules competitions, live music events and themed soirées. Barbecues are allowed, and a mini market on site sells a wide range of foodstuffs (including buttery croissants and freshly baked baguettes for breakfast). Alternatively, the snack bar serves burgers, pizzas and pasta dishes, or you can explore the restaurants and cafés in the centre of St-Georges-de-Didonne (five minutes’ drive). The site has twelve well-equipped and well-maintained toilet blocks with hot water and select equipment adapted for people with reduced mobility. There's also a launderette.

Lovely site near beach & town, good pool & facilities. Friendly staff, handy shop/restaurant. Downsides: close pitches, paid Wi-Fi, limited menu, no loo roll. Best for families with young kids.

Liked L espace jeux et le city stade sont vraiment biens pour les enfants de tout âges.
Le coin piscine est bien mais un peu petit.
Sanitaires propres et nombreux

Disliked Emplacement très sableux.
Les horaires de la piscine sont limités pour une période de vacances 10h 12h30 et 14h 19h 🙄
Le coin snack est franchement pas terrible niveaux organisation et pas aimable.
Côté animation c'est très nul en revanche vous pouvez profiter des animations du camping voisin qui est a fond toute la journée 🤣 ( même un peu trop parfois)

Non-electric gravel and sand tent pitch

Liked Facilities were very clean, bins emptied frequently and wash areas always immaculate. Hot water showers almost always. Pool was great for the kids. Shady pitches.

Boulle courts were great and beach on the doorstep

Liked Location is superb. Close to the beach and lots of things to see and do.

Disliked Pitches are very tight and difficult to access with a caravan unless it is very small. No toilet roll in toilets (bring your own). Not much in the way of entertainment. Pool is lovely but gets very busy!

Liked Camping très calme et super bien placé avec accès plage et toutes les commodités à proximité. La propreté des sanitaires est un point fort aussi.
Camping très agréable avec sa jolie piscine et les espaces de jeux pour les enfants.
Le restaurant du camping"chez Matthieu"est vraiment top, service super agréable, prix vraiment pas cher avec des plats vraiment garnis, on a adoré 😊

Disliked Les horaires de la piscine a vraiment été un bémol pour ce camping 10h/12h et 14h/19h. Elle ferme vraiment trop tôt pour des vacances au mois d'août sachant qu'il faisait encore très chaud.
La wifi est vraiment très chère.

Liked When we initially turned up the site felt very big and we all felt crammed in, however during our stay we got used to this and the camp site was actually quiet despite how packed it was.
The swimming pool was great fun with the kids.
The shop was good, fresh baked goods was a treat.
The location was also very good. 15 min walk to the beach, with beautiful sunsets.
There were lots of wash facilities, but we still needed to wait a short while for showers occasionally. The toilets didn’t have toilet paper (which seems quite common in France), but they also didn’t have hand washing facilities.
Wi fi was available at a cost. We didn’t use.

Disliked No handwashing facilities in the toilet blocks.
Not much privacy to each pitch.

Local attractions

With its coastal habitats, inland seas and mudflats, the Parc Naturel Marin de l’Estuaire de la Gironde (10 minutes’ walk) provides shelter to a large number of migratory birds, including ducks and geese. If you’re lucky, you might also be able to spot bottlenose and common dolphins, plus grey seals. Sitting on a small island in the middle of the Gironde estuary, the Cordouan Lighthouse can be accessed only by boat from either Royan (15 minutes’ drive) or Le Verdon-sur-Mer (50 minutes). Climb the 301 steps to the top of this elegant 17th-century beacon (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) to take in far-reaching views of the coastline. Zoo La Palmyre (25 minutes) is home to hundreds of animals – from big cats to primates, and from crocodiles to birds like colourful flamingoes and macaws. There are shows featuring sea lions and bird displays, or you can feed zoo-supplied corn to the resident giraffes and zebras.
