  • Well-appointed family-friendly site in the Picardy countryside
  • Half an hour's drive from the Bay of the Somme
  • Kids' club activities and family excursions in high season
What a lot of there is to do in the surrounds of Camping Le Val de Trie, just outside the village of Miannay… For starters, the Bay of the Somme (regarded as one of the most beaut anywhere on the globe) is a short drive away for beaches, birdwatching, seal spotting and steam train rides. Family-friendly cycle routes crisscross the locale, and you can also get out and about for hiking, horse riding and watersports. Nearby Abbeville and Amiens are crammed with historic attractions, and châteaux are dotted around the countryside. And what a lot there is to do on this family-friendly site as well. The covered pool area has a kids’ pool, a water play area and a sliding roof for swims in all weathers; there are games of pétanque and table tennis to play, and a playground, trampoline and bouncy castle for the amusement of your small sorts. Site staff organise family-friendly guided walks in summer, along with kids’ activities that will take your nippers off your hands six mornings a week for cooking, crafts, treasure hunts, games and farm outings. For a gentler time, book into the spa to bubble in the hot tub, or trot off to the fishing pond to see if you can hook any tench, bream or eels. You don't have to stray far to get your evening feed either: take your table at the site’s restaurant to feast on local faves (the Flemish carbonnade comes highly recommended) or international dishes.

Local attractions

As well as joining in the guided hikes from the site, there are also some lovely trails through the Crécy forest (half an hour away in the car) and lengthy stretches of coastal path to amble along. If you’d prefer to explore on two wheels, hire bikes on site for the hour-long ride to Saint-Valery-sur-Somme, which mainly follows a quiet canalside route. Saint-Valery-sur-Somme is also the jumping-off point for heaps of activities around the Bay of the Somme. From here you can join seal-spotting canoe trips, splash through the surf on horseback or join a guided walk out to Le Crotoy at low tide. A ride on the steam-powered railway comes highly recommended, as do simply cycling or walking as far as you fancy on the coastal paths. For historic ramblings, Abbeville (about a 20-minute drive from the site) has a UNESCO-listed belfry, ruined castle, the English-style gardens of the Benedictine priory, and the splendid fine arts museum. The ornate Château de Bagatelle and Château de Rambures, both around 25 minutes’ drive from the site, are worth a visit too.
