  • Large pitches at a 200-hectare estate near Saint-Julien-des-Landes
  • A 15-minute drive to the Vendée beaches; 55 minutes to Puy du Fou
  • Pool complex, lagoon beach, restaurant and lots of activities on site
Seeking some space to relax? You’ll certainly have plenty of that at Camping La Garangeoire – this Vendée site is part of a 200-hectare estate five minutes’ drive from Saint-Julien-des-Landes, with a rather magnificent historic house at its centre. The large size of the site means plenty of space to spread out on all the pitches, and it also means plenty of facilities for guests. The estate has been welcoming guests since way back in 1964, and in the intervening years the owners have continued to add more and more extras so they can now boast pretty much everything you’d want from a holiday location. On the entertainment front, that means a heated outdoor pool complex (with slides, a paddling pool and various activities including water polo and night swims), a sauna and massage room, two tennis courts, a football pitch, miniature golf, playgrounds, fishing ponds, an outdoor fitness area and trampolines. And that’s not all… there are also daily activities for kids and adults alike (including archery sessions, yoga and football training), plus bike hire, pedal go-kart hire, nature walks and a horse riding centre for kids’ pony rides, adult lessons and trail rides in the forest. And even that’s not all… because you’ll probably also want to leave some time for the beach area, which has a lovely lagoon that goes to a maximum depth of 90cm and is just the place for taking the kids for a safe paddle or swim. Meanwhile, when it comes to the essentials, there are plenty of those around too: the site has a restaurant, bar, wine bar, takeaway, supermarket, launderettes, electric vehicle charging… and a reception area with friendly staff who can help sort anything not on the list.

What customers say

Top-rated, well-kept site with spacious, private pitches, many with own toilets. Staff are brilliant & helpful. Loads to do with pools, lagoon, restaurant & shop. Mostly grand, just a note on cashless, iffy Wi-Fi & busy pools sometimes. A cracking family spot, folks will be back.

Liked There is nothing to not like about this place. My family had so much fun. There is so much to do, we didn’t get to it all in 7 days. The pools and lagoon are great and the equestrian center is amazing value.

Fully-serviced grass pitch (private bathroom amenities)

Liked Stunning site and location. Staff super friendly and helpful. Private bathroom facilities was a real treat which we loved. Pools are great. Would recommend taking bikes/scooters for kids as it’s a big site and they love the freedom - can hire bikes on site but it’s expensive. Food is fab especially the pizzas! Lake was beautiful and so calm. Archery was great fun. Travelled to OGliss waterpark - be prepared for queues like Alton Towers!

Fully-serviced grass pitch (private bathroom amenities)

Liked Welcoming staff .. amazing private bathroom cabin on the pitch. Welcome dog treat bag. Nice walk down to Lake.

Disliked As a solo traveller, just not for me. Enormous campsite with loads of pictches..Lake area a bit stagnant and not maintained well. It would’ve been great to be able to swim in it. Swimming pool very busy for June. Still in search of a pitch with a view and the ultimate nature experience :-)

Liked The whole site was amazing, very well kept and spotless. We ate at the takeaway which was great and the restaurant food was amazing. Every member of staff we came across was very helpful and friendly, a real credit. We have stayed on many sites in France but this was the best yet.

Local attractions

If you’re coming to the Vendée it’s likely that you’d like to spend some time at the beach. The easiest way to do that is to hop on the shuttle bus that runs to local beaches once a week in summer. If you’d rather travel under your own steam, it’s a 15-minute drive to Bretignolles-sur-Mer, or just under half an hour to Saint Gilles Croix de Vie or Les Sables d’Olonne. There are plenty of activities to try over at the beaches – and in the local area too. There’s a circuit of five golf courses around the park, plus go-karting at Circuit Mecamax (20 minutes’ drive), walks and bike rides at Lac de Jaunay (10 minutes) and aerial adventures at Le Grand Défi (five minutes). If you’re after a full-on family day out, plan a trip to Puy du Fou (55 minutes) – the history-inspired theme park is packed with rides, activities and shows so you’ll easily fill a day there with the kids.
