Life’s a breeze for families at Camping La Baie, five minutes’ drive from the shops, bars and restaurants of L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer in Vendée. There’s so much set up at this site for all ages to enjoy, from slides and a climbing wall in the playground to aquagym sessions in the heated swimming pool. There are also games and puzzles at the kids’ club, a pétanque court and sports fields for kicking a ball around.
Book your youngsters into the kids' club and you can drift between the poolside sunbeds and the snack bar, safe in the knowledge that their offspring are being supervised. If you want a change of scenery, you can hire bikes on site and set off to discover the expansive Atlantic beaches around L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer (15 minutes’ cycle) or have a tasting session at one of the local oyster or mussel farms.
Handy on-site amenities that lighten your chore load include modern showers, a laundry room with washing machines and dryers, and a washing-up area.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.- The outdoor swimming pool is open between 15/05 and 15/09 (subject to weather conditions).
- The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.
- At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Local attractions
Hire a traditional wooden punt to float down the waterways and tree-shaded canals of the Marais Poitevin Regional Natural Park (20 minutes’ drive), or catch a dressage performance at Haras de la Vendée (45 minutes), where Arabian horses are put through their paces.
Brush up on local history with a visit to the medieval jousting and falconry events at sprawling Castle Talmont (40 minutes), once home to Richard the Lionheart. There are self-guided tours of the romantic ruins at Maillezais Abbey (an hour), and the kids can learn more about regional heritage during the dramatic themed shows at Puy du Fou (an hour and 15 minutes).
Alternatively, spend your days on the sands – Les Sables-d’Olonne (50 minutes) is a popular choice, You can also hire watersports gear on the beach at L’Aiguillon-sur-Mer (15 minutes by bike), and learn to sail dinghies, paddleboard or kitesurf.
