Spend your next holiday dawdling in the dunes at Camping de la Mer in Stella Plage, a seaside site where the sands of Stella beach in Pas-de-Calais are accessible directly from the grounds. This wildlife haven is only a 15-minute drive from Le Touquet and around three hours' drive north of Paris. Making a quick dash over from Britain? It’s also within easy reach of ferry ports, with Calais about an hour and 10 minutes’ drive away. Once you’ve arrived, activities to get stuck into are plentiful: this prime park in northern France has partnerships with many a local tour organiser, so you can learn to surf, kayak across the sea or take a walking tour of nearby bays in search of seals. More interested in hanging out with horses? An equestrian centre is a 15-minute drive away to the north in Le Touquet, also home to a golf course and waterpark. Heading south instead, make for Parc Bagatelle for rides and rollercoasters to suit the younger kids; the parkland here is also ace for picnicking. Back on base (with an ice cream in hand from the on-site vendor in high season), check in with Camping de la Mer’s friendly staff to get their top tips on the things to do and sights to see in the local area. Nice big pitch but it is set up for 4 motorhomes.

Only spent one night. Incredibly windy.Probably great in summer.

Liked: Lovely sized pitches. Was just a 1 night stop on the way back to ferry.

Disliked: Toilet block was so dated & not very clean. Full of cobwebs & spiders.

Liked: Nice big pitch with electric on a handstand on flat ish ground, check in all straightforward, facilities are dated but everything worked ok.

Disliked: Dislike is a harsh word to use but some of the things that were not great were:
Shower block was only available 8am to 9pm, I was working at a local golf tournament and had early starts at 6 and 7am.
Block like a lot of Euro sites had no toilet seats in the internal and external WC’s.
With a handstand no Bar BQ allowed.
With my wife’s mobility it’s a fair old walk to the town for bar and restaurant as no facilities within 1000m, we used bikes to overcome.
Lots of the facilities in town part only opens weekends.
Beach next door is walking up a very steep sand dune about 50m steep (didn’t bother)
We would use this site again if only on my own for work again.
Never been told on a site at 10.45am while packing up, you must leave for 11am to free up the pitch on a near empty site on a Sunday morning, dumping waste water at a public aire facility was a bit odd as well.

Liked: On arrival very warm welcome, great sense of humour given the language barrier! Allocated a decent sized pitch. Location is perfect for a huge clean sandy beach, and a walk into town to get supplies. Showers are very dated but clean and water very hot ! Didn’t use loos but yes their European no seat and take your own paper over. Felt very greatful our entire stay we were not given neighbors meaning loads of room for kids to run over the 3 other pitches on our patch (pitches are very small if you end up with the 4 units per slot like theirs room for) park was simple but safe. Walk to beach over sand dune is VERY steep , if not very mobile a short walk to town is best for beach access

Disliked: No shop or cafe open like description but not a major thing

Liked: Très bon séjour, près de la plage, commerces et restaurants.

Disliked: Les sanitaires restent vétustes à revoir, mais propres tout de même. Et 4€ par jour pour un petit chien c'est cher, alors qu'il n'utilise aucune commodité, certains campings ne font pas payer.

Local attractions

If you’re swayed by the idea of learning to sail, do it on the sand instead of sea at a school in Berck 20 minutes’ drive south of the park. Or is the water where you’ll want to be? If so, a place for renting standup paddleboards, pedal boats and jetskis is around 10 minutes away. Have an ocean experience without getting wet at the aquariums of the Maréis - Sea Fishing Discovery Center (20 minutes’ drive), or go to take a look at the thousands of underwater creatures at the Nausicaá National Sea Center 50 minutes away in Boulogne-sur-Mer. Inland and outdoors is Montreuil’s old town (25 minutes) and the Vallée de la Course (35 minutes), for flitting around a pretty landscape dotted with farmhouses, posh mansions and churches. Castles are (of course) around here too – drive half an hour to Château de Recques-sur-Course to mosey around a stately Louis XV-style structure.
