  • Small family-run site a few minutes' walk from the Lot river
  • Local walks starting and finishing from the site
  • Pool, paddling pool, playground, books and licensed snack bar
'...the best place for relaxing, exploring and splashing about on the river': so says one gratified former guest about the lush little site of Camping Ruisseau du Treil. Run by owners Cheryl and Steve, Ruisseau du Treil is a small and peaceful place within a few minutes' walk of the Lot river, among the vast landscapes of the Causses du Quercy Natural Regional Park in a tiptop spot for hiking, biking and wildlife watching. It's all under a kilometre from Larnahol, with canoeing available on the Lot and the Celé rivers, and city sightseeing at Cahors within 50 minutes' drive. There's loads of info on site about local activities as well as info and brochures on this part of south-west France, the Midi Pyrenées, nearby caves and castles or the horse riding trails within easy reach. Or just settle down to find your own pretty place here, among the site's shade of acacia, walnut, ash and oak trees, or by the ancient stone walls – perhaps with a sizeable portion of goats' cheese or a famed red wine from Cahors from the fully-licensed snack bar...? Other facilities include a pool, a paddling pool and a playground; there are books to borrow too and a TV in the bar area for indoor times. Bread and croissants can be ordered for breakfast and a small shop sells basics.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked This site is a little piece of paradise. Large grass pitches with trees and shrubs, being managed for wildlife. Loads of butterflies and birds - a robin flew into my van and perched on my foot!
Peaceful location in a stunning part of France, some great walking through the woods.
Delicious pizza on Monday/Friday.
Fantastic hosts, very friendly and excellent English (as they’re from England).
Excellent facilities with Wi-Fi around the whole site.

Disliked Nothing.
However, please don’t stay here if you like your grass manicured - it’s not for you.

From the manager: Hi Helena, thank you for taking time to write a review for Camping Ruisseau du Treil. We're really pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and that you spent time walking and admiring the wildlife, we're glad you liked the pizza too!

Route directions

It's best to ignore your satnav as it will take you through tiny narrow roads and villages. From the north, leave the A20 at Junction 56 and take the D802 to Figeac. On arrival at Figeac, follow directions to Cajarc and pick up the D19. On arrival at Cajarc follow the signs for Cahors and St Cirq Lapopie. Follow the road out of Cajarc, with the Lot river on your left, for 8 kilometres, and the turning for the site is on the righthand side 500 metres before the village of Larnagol.

Please note: All distances on this page are calculated "as the crow flies" - please check actual distance depending on your mode of travel using the Get directions button above.

Local attractions

Get out into the Lot valley and the Causses du Quercy Natural Regional Park with ease from here, among ancient villages, old manor houses, megalithic dolmens and peaceful green countryside. Bikes are available to hire on site. One famed local village on the must-see list is Saint Cirq Lapopie (15 minutes' drive), in spectacular setting over the Lot river. Take the main road down the hill first for splendid views of the village and the remains of its three ancient fortresses, then make your way into the town centre to see its medieval half-timbered houses and teeny terraced gardens. Even more anciently, the famed grotto at Pech Merle (25 minutes) is home to prehistoric cave paintings on over a kilometre and a half of cavern, and is one of the few sites of its kind in France still open to the general public. Take a guided tour to see the paintings and the cave's stalactites and stalagmites; the site's prehistory museum has info and exhibits on these as well as the prehistory of the Quercy region. More? Figeac is 35 minutes' drive from the site and Rocamadour within an hour and 10 minutes. If this is all a tad too cultural for the kids, the Youpi adventure park at Cahors is 50 minutes' drive away.
