  • Comfortable family-friendly site in the Lot countryside
  • Within 20 minutes' drive of Cahors; an hour to Rocamadour
  • Heated pool, paddling pool, large play area, kids' club and bar
Tucked away in the Lot countryside 20 minutes' drive from Cahors, Pagel is a fab campsite for family-friendly stays. Its amenities include a bar, a heated pool (surrounded by a fence for safety) and various bits and pieces for the kids, including a paddling pool, a kids' club and a spacious garden with playground equipment – think huts they can hide away in, a pirate ship, a trampoline and slides – plus a mini farm with its very own goats and chickens. For dinner, you could head to the barbecue the site organises every week – a great way to meet other guests – or check out the various restaurants on offer within a 15-minute drive. The site can also arrange bread and pastry deliveries for breakfast (order the night before). The accommodation units are plush and comfortable, with books and games for the kids, family-friendly bathrooms and well-equipped kitchens complete with handy bits of kit for those travelling with babies and toddlers – high chairs, booster seats, cots and more can all be lent to you free of charge. Every morning, the kids' club lays on activities for travelling tiddlers (allowing the grownups to get some rest – lounging by the pool uninterrupted or finishing off that book you've been reading are now within your grasp…). If it’s evenings without the kids you’re after, you can also make use of the site's babysitting service.

Local attractions

It's a 10-minute drive to the village of Catus for places to eat, a bakery, a Tuesday market and, best of all, a green lake with a beach where you can swim or hire a pedalo. In addition, there are all sorts of trails for walking or mountain biking, and an equestrian centre is on hand too for horse treks through the luscious Lot valley. Half an hour away is Cahors, an elegant city famed for its bridge, many tempting wineries, medieval cathedral and museum on the French Resistance. It's also a good spot for river trips and supermarket stock-ups. History fans can visit Sarlat, Saint Cirq Lapopie and Rocamadour with its narrow paved streets and impressive old architecture – all of which can be reached within an hour. Families will come across plenty of suitable attractions around Rocamadour – a monkey forest, prehistoric Dino Park and Gramat animal park (where you can come face to face with bears, deer and wolves) are all options within an hour of base. Those more into caves than creatures can visit the prehistoric specimens and paintings at Merveilles or take a train ride through the limestone caverns at Lacave, both 50 minutes away.
