- Peaceful grassy park in the Pyrenees Ariégeoises Regional Natural Park
- Less than 10km from climbing, canyoning, potholing and tree climbing
- Weekly dinner and dance events, plus access to a nearby tennis court
Mountains, a river and outdoor activities in the Vicdessos valley await at this green and peaceful site at the foot of the Pyrenees in the village of Capoulet-et-Junac.
Camping La Prairie is set across two hectares of lush grassy land on the eastern edge of the Pyrenees Ariégeoises Regional Natural Park, about 10 kilometres from hiking, climbing, canyoning, potholing and tree climbing among the splendid scenery of the Ariège peaks. It's also bordered by a river, so it's a dead cert that you'll find a fair few sights and activities in the area while here.
Plenty to see and do for all ages is on site too, including fishing by the river, an outdoor pool and paddling pool with ping pong tables alongside, a pétanque court and a spacious and well-equipped play area. Over in the games room there's billiards and table football for ages 14+, and for rainy days or big sporting fixtures there's no better place to hole up in than the cosy TV room.
Depending on how many guests are around, there's usually a Thursday evening meal of scrumptious stuff like moules frites, paella or duck, followed by an evening of dance (for those who prefer to hit the hay early, the music-fuelled footwork takes place in a soundproof room so as not to disturb anyone's early nights).
Barbecues are allowed too, which means your mealtimes are sorted the rest of the week should you be a fan of flame grilling your food.

Local attractions
Follow the flow of the Vicdessos southward for an outdoor adventure centre and organised activities and excursions ranging from hiking to climbing, canyoning, potholing and tree climbing. Horse riding, whitewater rafting, paragliding, canoeing, waterskiing and trout fishing in the area's lakes and rivers are available in the region too.
Among the historic spots recommended by the knowledgeable Camping La Prairie team is the Niaux cave, forming part of a wider system that includes the Sabart cave and Lombrives cave in the Cap de la Lesse de Bialac hill. Here you'll get to see Palaeolithic rock art depicting bison, horses, deer and Alpine ibex among one of Europe's most fab underground Palaeolithic galleries, and you can reach it all within 10 minutes by car or 45 minutes on foot.
Next there's the spectacularly well-preserved medieval Château de Foix, which presides over the town of Foix from atop a rocky outcrop and was once the home to counts, viscounts and monarchs, or the mountaintop ruins of Montségur – said to have once housed the Holy Grail – 40 minutes' drive away.
