- Dog-friendly Wild West-themed glamping site in Haute-Vienne
- A 35-minute drive from Saint-Pardoux-le-Lac for watersports and walks
- Communal firepit for shared meals; accompanied cowboy’s trailer rides
The Wild West is not too far away… the miniature Wild West-themed glamping village at Clos de L’Isop might help you feel a little closer to the real thing. A family-friendly site with dogs permitted too, this Haute-Vienne site is 35 minutes' drive away from Saint-Pardoux-le-Lac, an hour and 10 minutes from Poitiers and well-suited as a chilled-out base for your search for cherry-flavoured clafoutis, outdoor adventures and the surrounding historical towns and cities.
Things are pretty lively around here, as there’s a communal campfire where meals are shared (nicely set up for those starry nights too) and entertainment in the evenings… and in the day, the site runs accompanied roaming stays where you may board a cowboy’s trailer and embark on your own Wild West-style adventure.
To help you feel as wild as possible, the site has dry toilets and an outdoor shower. You may very well feel like rinsing off, as there are nature walks surrounding the site and 20 minutes’ walk away, there’s a six-kilometre scenic riverside walk to Rochers de l'Isop, a protected rock site, or the Lake Villedon (10 minutes' drive) for fishing.
Don’t worry too much about a long mission to find supplies, as there’s a food shop 10 minutes’ drive away from the site. Handily, there are several restaurants 10 minutes’ drive away too, in case you want to hunt down somewhere nice to eat out.

Local attractions
Pick your vehicle of choice… pedalos, sailboats and canoes are available to hire at Saint-Pardoux-le-Lac (35 minutes' drive). The lake is also suited to wild swimming and for those who’d rather stay on dry land, the walking trails are rather ripe wildlife spotting areas. The forest’s acrobatic park has zipwires, an aerial bike and a forest snowboard too, if you’ve got the guts for it.
Interested in history too? The remains of an old village, once burnt to the ground in 1944, remain in Oradour-sur-Glane Ville martyr (35 minutes). And for a little look at traditional life in a village at the start of the 20th century, Montrol-Sénard (20 minutes) is pretty well-preserved.
Poitiers (an hour and 10 minutes) is a city with more historical sites, including an 11th-century church, cathedral and museums. Just outside, Futuroscope (an hour and 10 minutes) is likely to get your blood pumping. The theme park has space-themed rides and rollercoasters.
Looking to see some animals too? Élevage De Bisons Jean Luther (10 minutes) is a bison breeding farm where you may go on a safari. There are also horse trekking opportunities around the Haute-Vienne region and a horse carriage collection in Saint-Auvent (45 minutes).
