It's free, quick and easy!
- Family park in Argelès sur Mer, a two-minute drive from the beach
- A 20-minute drive from central Perpignan and 15 minutes from Collioure
- Waterpark, spa, hammam, restaurant, bar and shop
When it comes to seaside stays, Argelès sur Mer is a rather sweet spot. Visitors here have access to a splendid sandy beach (wider than most, so you can be pretty sure of finding a prime position for your towel) and views over the Albères mountains. All this is two minutes' drive from Camping Le Méditerranée, making this Pyrénées-Orientales site a fab base for seaside breaks.
Briny bathing options may be on hand nearby, but this site is not one to let the sea steal its thunder: 1200 m² of waterpark allow for an array of aquatic adventures right on site, whether you opt for lengths in the heated indoor pool, zooming down one of the three waterslides, taking the kids to the paddling area or simply pulling up a sunchair and taking in views over the snow-capped Canigou. Those looking for a proper pamper should book in with the on-site spa, where hammam and massage sessions are available.
Camping Le Méditerranée's ents options add a bit of pizazz to days and nights spent on site: in the summer months, sports tournaments should get guests' blood pumping, while after dinner there are evening shows and disco nights to look forward to. Speaking of food, visitors here can choose between an on-site restaurant and food shop or setting up a barbie for self-cooked sizzles. Several supermarkets can be reached within a five-minute drive, too.

Local attractions
Argelès sur Mer and its seven kilometres of sandy beach may be fab, but it's not the only top seaside spot around. Named after the local red rock, the Côte Vermeille is a stretch of coast that runs down to the Spanish border: here you'll find peaceful ports like Collioure (15 minutes' drive), seaside wine-tasting hubs like Banyuls (20 minutes) and the swish marina at Port-Vendres (also 20 minutes).
Those in search of local lore should be pleased by how many historic sites can be found hereabouts: the medieval village of Castelnou (35 minutes), prehistoric artefacts at Tautavel (50 minutes) and UNESCO-listed ramparts at Villefranche-de-Conflent (one hour) are all within easy reach. Those looking for a bit of natural history, meanwhile, should make tracks for the nature reserve at Mas Larriu (10 minutes).
Guests here are also well placed for day trips to the city: Perpignan (20 minutes) has everything you'd expect from a sizeable French town (street markets, art galleries and a medieval cathedral), while cross-border trips to Figueres and the must-see Dalí museum are also on the cards.
