  • Family site in the Cévennes National Park
  • Ten minutes' walk from a swimming, fishing and watersports lake
  • Pool, spa, snack bar and summer shuttle bus to the local market
You'll have no probs getting out and about with a scenic stay at Lozère's Le Mas Des Sédariès – which is rather handy as there's rather a lot to see and do around this spectacular mountain setting. First up, someone from the friendly team can take you to the site from the local station if you so desire, and drop you off again when (if?) you're off to pastures anew, as part of their free service which runs from mid-June to mid-September. July and August have a free shuttle bus from the site to the local Monday evening market, and to the Thursday morning market so you can pick up local produce for your barbie back at base. There's no probs getting out and about under your own efforts from here either, whether you're on foot, bike or taking out the car: Le Mas Des Sédariès's woodland setting is in the Cévennes National Park, at the foot of Mount Lozere overlooking the Cévennes mountain range, for days walking, climbing, canyoning and caving in the surrounding mountains. It's about about 10 minutes' walk from here to Villefort town and its lake with beaut blue waters for sailing, windsurfing and fishing. The world-famed French attractions of the Gorges du Gardon, the Gorges de l'Ardeche and the Pont d'Arc are under 40 kilometres away. Staying around the site, this scenic and peaceful place has plenty of space to settle down in or amble around, and facilities to keep you nicely occupied among all the mountainous days: see for example the pool in its gorgeous green surroundings… There's a play area too, a TV room and a fitness room, ping pong tables and – how splendid – a spa to soothe muscles tired out by mountain climbs. Light bites, pizza, ice creams and cold drinks are sold at the summer snack bar. The shop sells groceries and Viennese pastries and bread; supermarkets, butchers, a bakery and several restaurants are within 800 metres in town.

Local attractions

Take your pick from mountain or lake activities within walking distance of the site, with climbs and hikes among the peaks of the Cévennes National Park, or watersports and fishing at the nearby lake. Via ferrata courses are in the area for hair-raising adventures too. By car, several must-see settings are within easy driving distance, such as the Ardèche gorges, the Monts d'Ardèche Natural Regional Park and the gorges of Tarn and Gardon. You should also get along to fab Vallon Pont d'Arc, to see the ancient art in the Chauvet Cave (among the oldest in all the world), and the vast stone arch of the Pont d'Arc, where you can swim in the waters below or pass through the arch to reach 24 kilometres of Gorges de l'Ardèche river for canoeing and canyoning. Just under 15 minutes' north of Villefort is La Garde-Guerin, a medieval town that still has its original Middle Ages watchtower. The town is edged on one side by the Regordane Way, the trade path linking Le Puy en Velay in the centre of France to Saint Gilles du Gard on the Mediterranean. As a central point for centuries, this part of the path is in a strategic and highly scenic setting, spanning from Monts Ardechois in the west to Mont Ventoux and Mont Lozere to the south-west and west.
