- Small, peaceful and family-sized site 150 metres from a pebble beach
- On the Cap Corse peninsula, a 10-minute drive from Bastia
- All accommodation has a kitchenette with a microwave and fridge
Pack your walking boots, bring some binoculars (if you wish to) and most importantly, bring along your beach gear, because Camping les Orangers is a small, peaceful and family-sized site in San-Martino-di-Lota on the Cap Corse peninsula. This rocky region is renowned for its wild cliffs and coves, the nearest of which is just 150 metres from the site (a two-minute walk, to be precise).
In the high season, this cute, little pebble shore named Plage de Miomo has free activities for children such as inflatable structures, pedalos and sea kayaks. After wading around for a while, you might want to sling your pack over your shoulder and head out over the coastal paths – you’ll soon come across other peaceful coves like Plage de Lavasina (half an hour’s walk).
In a setting with shade from huge eucalyptus trees, it’s all very peaceful at Camping les Orangers. There’s an outdoor swimming pool that’s open in high season for all your pool games and quick dips, as well as tennis courts a 10-minute walk from the site for those seeking even sportier afternoons.
However hungry you get, don’t fret about being short on quick eats, as there are shops in the surrounding Miomo village. All of the accommodation at Camping les Orangers are rental types kitted out with a kitchenette including a microwave and fridge. There are also private showers and toilets, a free parking space and wifi, which are all very handy to have, of course.
While here, break from your coastal jaunts and beach paddles for a while to visit Bastia, 10 minutes’ drive to the south. There are plenty of restaurants and bars for foodies, a generous helping of historical sites and the Old Port, where you might want to sit with an ice cream and watch the boats bob in and out. The commercial port connects Bastia to other destinations and the Bastia Poretta Airport is half an hour’s drive away.

Local attractions
What should make your sightseeing itinerary in Bastia (10 minutes’ drive)? Perhaps, bar hopping along the Old Port, a boat trip up over the Cap Corse or venturing into La Cittadella, a fortress which was built in medieval times to help with keeping watch over the port? Historical sites are in no short supply – a church with twin towers, a cathedral, market square and a local history museum.
Get your binoculars ready for Étang de Biguglia (35 minutes), a wildlife haven with over 250 bird species, including flamingos. Luri (35 minutes) has a similar lush, green setting, but with lemon trees, vineyards and a wine museum open in the summer.
For a sandy beach – and watersports like sailing - Plage de l'Arinella (15 minutes) is a rather excellent choice.
