It's free, quick and easy!
- In the Orient Forest Regional Natural Park, 650 metres from Géraudot
- A few minutes' stroll from Lac d'Orient and a sandy lakeside beach
- Woodland setting with walking and cycling paths close by
Oh, this is a splendid Aube setting… Camping Les Rives du Lac is in the Orient Forest Regional Natural Park, five minutes drive from the village of Géraudot and with the shores of Lac d’Orient (and, more importantly, a sandy lake beach) just across the road.
Stroll those few minutes to the water’s edge from this Champagne-Ardenne forest site and there’s good fishing to be had (bring your kit), along with good birdwatching (bring your binoculars) and watersports in the form of pedal boats, windsurfing and sailing (no need to bring kit for this… you can hire all the relevant bits here).
Looping walks around the lake and lifeguarded swims are also on the cards; elsewhere nearby there are woodland walking and cycle paths in the immediate surrounds, and the site is right next to the 42-kilometre bike trail from Troyes to Dienville. Bike hire and Segway rides are available in the park just opposite the grounds – best leave time for a round of miniature golf too if you’re planning to sign up for either.
Leave space in the schedule for a bit of time on site too: for eats at the snack bar (moules-frites, chicken, pizza… that sort of thing) and for games of pétanque and volleyball or sessions at the fitness area to work some of the calories off. The site also has a small shop for food, drinks and ice cream, and bread and pastry sales every morning.

Local attractions
Feeling crafty? This is an area known for its pretty products, and you can check them out on a trip to a stained glass workshop in Lesmont (15 minutes’ drive) or have a go yourself at one of the pottery classes in Amance (20 minutes). If you’re into your art, it’s worth heading to Essoyes (35 minutes) to see Renoir’s birthplace and learn a bit about the famed painter.
If that’s not your thing, head up to the natural park’s office (five minutes) to take a ride on the little tourist train to Mesnil-Saint-Père, or pay a visit to the Forêt d'Orient golf club (10 minutes) for a round or a spa treatment (or both… you’re on hols, after all). Troyes (25 minutes) makes a good visit too – wander among the half-timbered houses and see if you can tick off all 10 churches.
For those with tiddlers in tow, there are rides and shows galore to explore at Nigloland theme park (half an hour); for those seeking a day out with an altogether more grownup vibe, it’s worth remembering that this is the Champagne area, and therefore there are many options within a 45-minute drive for tours and tipples.
