It's free, quick and easy!
- Peaceful and shaded site bordered by the Creuse river
- Just outside Argenton-sur-Creuse and passed by a greenway bike route
- Fishing, play area, bouncy castle and pool just outside the grounds
What might a peaceful, riverside site right in the centre of France look like – and one that's passed by riverside ambles and a greenway cycling route? Add in easy access to the spectacular Brenne Regional Natural Park, and watersports, swimming and fishing a short drive south at Éguzon lake, and you've got yourself a hol at Camping Les Chambons.
Your local town is Argenton-sur-Creuse, about a kilometre and a half from Les Chambons on the handsome and lengthy Creuse river. Several walks are around town, alongside the river and in the nearby natural park, or you could tackle the 110-kilometre trail of the Val de Creuse hiking path on its run from Saint-Plantaire to Crozant.
Les Chambons is in the Centre region's Indre department, within strolling distance of shops. A heated outdoor pool with slides, bubble lagoon, water cannon and paddling pool is just outside the park entrance, with free entry for one session a day for site guests. There's a play area, bouncy castle and trampoline within the site, along with ping pong tables, pétanque and river fishing.
High season sees occasional entertainment including karaoke and theme nights; a welcome session with drink is on Sunday afternoons, and a kids' club runs once a week.

Local attractions
Hire a bike from the team and set off to explore the local Voie Verte or greenway, meandering for 22 kilometres along the old railway line from Le Blanc to La Châtre. You can walk the route too, or if you crave a longer hike, access the Val de Creuse path around 15 minutes' drive away in Baraize.
A drive of half an hour or so south will land you at Éguzon (or Chambon) lake, covering 312 blue hectares in scenic setting with views to the Éguzon dam from the hillside above. There's swimming and fishing as well as shoreside walks here if you want to take things a little easy; if not, you can take canoes, rowing boats or pedalo boats out onto the water, or take things up a further notch with windsurfing or waterskiing.
Wander around the medieval houses and handsome surrounds of Argenton-sur-Creuse for town time; from there, it's a 15-minute drive to the old walled town of Saint-Gaultier, or 30 minutes to the half-timbered houses and George Sand museum of La Châtre.
