  • Peaceful family campsite in pine forest bordering the Sologne region
  • Five minutes’ drive to Pôle des Étoiles de Nançay and Galerie Capazza
  • Snack bar and bread delivery; five minutes’ drive to Nançay shops
If you’re looking to unwind on your sojourn in the Sologne, your search for a suitably peaceful campsite could be over. Camping Onlycamp Les Pins sits in the middle of pine forest, with little to distract from the rustling of branches and the sound of bird song. Easily accessible to vehicles and landscaped with flowers and greenery, grass pitches are tucked under tree canopy for shelter and privacy. This campsite has a thoroughly chilled vibe lending itself to absolute rest and relaxation. Quiet it maybe, but there’s still plenty to do for the kids. Play table tennis or pétanque, or let toddlers run around on the playground. Tiptoe around the site to see how many birds you can spot in the trees, and after dark on clear nights, cosy up at your accommodation and watch the stars dancing far above. In high season, ice cream, beers, coffees and regional produce are available at the simple terrace bar, and you can order fresh bread and croissants for the morning. A small grocery shop takes care of the basics, and should you need anything else, it’s a five-minute drive to rural Nançay village, with a food market on Wednesday mornings, plus a scattering of butchers, bakers, pizzerias and auberges. And if you’re keen to get out exploring the forests, heathland and lakes of the Sologne region, ask the helpful team at reception about where’s best to go.

What customers say

Amidst the pines, a peaceful escape with friendly staff. Spacious pitches, clean facilities, and natural beauty are a hit for relaxation and stargazing. Showers are a little old, but hot and clean. No signal is a plus for some. Mostly quiet, though a school group was noted. Limited local shops.

Electric optional forest floor pitch

Liked Peaceful area, in a shaded location which is helpful.

Disliked Very dated, looks very rundown including the facilities. Disappointing as the campsite has so much potential.

Electric optional forest floor pitch

Liked Great stopover, secluded pitch surrounded by pine trees. Bit rough around the edges, toilet block very clean but a bit tired. If you like a sanitised eurocamp experience this probably isn’t for you. But if you like a site that is more natural with friendly staff then you will be very happy. We would definitely stay again if we were travelling on the A20 and needed a stopover 10 mins from the motorway and a world away with no noise apart from birdsong.

Electric optional forest floor pitch

Liked Large pitches under the pine trees. Great stop off just off the motorway for a run through France heading south.

Disliked Large group of very young school children on a summer trip set up camp directly opposite us by the wash block. Luckily we were leaving that morning. Looks like the site might be used as a kids holiday camp with large football field next to the campsite. The bar and shop don't really stock anything. You need to take what you need with you. The town has one bar closed on Monday and one small grocery shop only open normal hours.

Electric optional forest floor pitch

Local attractions

If you like looking up to the skies, head for the 4D planetarium, exhibits and workshops at Pôle des Étoiles de Nançay astronomy observatory. Staying local, tour the contemporary sculptures and installations at the Galerie Capazza, found in the stables of Nançay’s château (both five minutes’ drive), or taste the famed local biscuits at Les Sablés de Nançay (five minutes’ walk). The whole family can get active in rope courses and zipwires at Aventure Parc, you can hone your handicap at neighbouring Golf de Nançay Sologne, and there’s fishing, wild swimming and lakeside picnic spots at Étang Communal de la Chaux (all five minutes’ drive). To explore a bit further afield, Aubigny-sur-Nère is a lively market town with half-timbered cottages and inviting terrace bars in its cobbled squares, while medieval Bourges (both half an hour) is overlooked by a vast Gothic-style cathedral and the ornate Palais Jacques Coeur. Several of the graceful châteaux of the Loire Valley are within an hour’s drive.
