- Hand-crafted glamping units designed and built by a sculptor
- Cluny Abbey and Rock of Solutré within a 25-minute drive
- Eco-friendly site in a rural Natura 2000-listed Burgundy location
Now here’s a place that’s been a true labour of love to set up – Le Village Insolite is made up of glamping units that have all been built by site owner Éric according to his own designs. A sculptor by trade, Éric has brought his artistic flair to the cabin designs so each one is individual in style and packed with character.
In setting the place up, he’s also been mindful of the surrounding environment and developed various eco-friendly installations including dry toilets, green roofs, recycling facilities and solar panels for water heating and electrical supplies.
Each unit has its own kitchen area along with space outside to relax – and outdoor seating provided to help you soak up the fresh air and rural views. They’re really rather lovely views, too, as the site is in a Natura 2000-listed location on a hillside five minutes’ drive from Navour-sur-Grosne.
Days out around here might involve visiting various châteaux, geological formations including the famed Rock of Solutré and Grottes de Blanot, taking rural hikes or following one of the wine trails to discover some of Burgundy’s best offerings.

Local attractions
This part of the world is pretty interesting from a geological point of view, with a couple of excellent natural sights to see not far from base. You may like to start with a trip to the Grottes de Blanot (half an hour’s drive), where you’ll venture 80 metres below the surface for an hour-long tour of the underground maze of caverns and tunnels.
Back up at ground level, continue on to Solutré (25 minutes) to see the limestone Rock of Solutré and visit the Musée de Préhistoire de Solutré, on the site of one of the richest prehistoric collections ever found in Europe.
The area’s buildings are just as impressive, as you’ll see if you make trips to Cluny Abbey (15 minutes), Berzé-le-Châtel castle (20 minutes) and the lavish Château de Cormatin (half an hour). And of course, this is Burgundy, so several of the local châteaux house wineries – many of them are open for tours and tastings, and feature on local wine trails.
For open-air activities, you may like to tackle the treetop trails at Acro’Bath adventure park or head into Matour, which has a swimming pool and a fishing pond (both are 15 minutes’ drive away).
