- Leafy and peaceful site a 10-minute walk to Blot-l'Église village
- Within 15 minutes’ drive of Gorges de la Sioul and Château Rocher
- Wifi, bar, restaurant, swimming pool, playgrounds and table tennis
Crater lakes, castles and cathedrals… all manner of cool and cultural attractions are ripe for exploring on a hol at Camping La Coccinelle in central France.
When not gaping at the towering peaks in the distance from the surrounding region – this park’s 10 minutes’ walk from the traditional village of Blot-l'Église with the spectacular Puy de Dôme volcano towering in the background – or roaming the river-lined landscape of the Gorges de la Sioul 15 minutes’ drive away, plenty of serene spots are dotted across the spacious grounds inviting weary travellers to unwind in the sunshine or under the shade of the many trees...
While partaking in some much-deserved R&R, send the kids out of the way: they’ll have two playgrounds with a trampoline, slide, swing, sandbox and twist bar to get lost in as well as a swimming pool, table tennis facilities and petanque court.
If the small humans won’t leave you alone, say oui to a meal at the restaurant-bar then escape to the terrace and linger over a coffee or sweet sorbet (in the summer months) to browse the wifi while they’re distracted with grub.
If sorting stuff’s on the agenda after a meal, Blot l’Eglise has a supermarket and bakery – prime for prepping picnics ready for the next few days – and a service point for motorhomes is at the park. When swapping errands for energetic activities, the site’s surroundings are home to canoeing and horse riding facilities for getting right out into the countryside.

Local attractions
They say you’re never far from a castle in France and this park seems to prove them right… it’s a 15-minute drive from the ruins of the Château Rocher fortress with its views over the Sioule river valley from way up high (go in July or August for a guided tour) and 20 minutes to the 13th-century Château de Chouvigny at the entrance of the scenic Chouvigny gorges.
To head further back in time on a historical trip, Menat is a 15-minute drive for its archaeological sites, 11th-century abbey (one of the oldest in Auvergne) and palaeontological museum displaying reams of regional artefacts.
Kids not appreciative of these types of cultural pursuits? Take them to the educational Vulcania park under 40 minutes away for lava-themed amusement or whisk them off on a ride of the Panoramique des Dômes rack railway straight up to the Puy de Dôme peak 50 minutes away for some real-life volcanic action.
If they’re feeling especially brave, they could even paraglide off the top...
