At the edge of a river near the Pyrenees, within easy reach of Bious-Artigues lake, and with long lengths of walking and cycling trails snaking around its Pyrénées-Atlantiques countryside – oui, Camping Le Saillet is an outdoorsy kind of site. There's direct access to the river from here for rafting, swimming, paddling, fishing and canoeing, and easy access to hiking, mountain trekking and cycling high up nearby. Walks run alongside the river or up to the sanctuary of Bétharram Caves in nearby Lourdes. If you do want to kick back around base, Camping Le Saillet has a pool, playground, deckchairs and regular creative activities such as pottery. There's also a snack bar with covered terrace and grassed seating area, dishing up regional specialties, cold drinks and regular live music. Among the modern and comfy amenities are shower and toilet block suitable for disabled guests, a launderette and a washing-up area. Shops, bars and restaurants are in the local village, five minutes' walk away.

Liked De prachtige ligging, grote plek, vriendelijk personeel, riviertje naast de camping en op loopafstand de bakker. De rust die opdracht camping heerst.

Disliked Staat van het sanitair. Geen warm water om af te wassen en te douchen.
Op zondag en maandag is de bakker gesloten en had je broodjes kunnen reserveren bij de bakker. Dit wisten we helaas niet dus geen ontbijt voor ons.

Liked Camping pequeño pero tranquilo y acogedor. Por la noche se apagan todas las luces, incluso las del pueblo, cosa que te permite disfrutar del firmamento. De noche sólo se escucha el sonido del río que pasa justo al lado. El ambiente es familiar y tranquilo. El personal del camping es educado y eficiente. Volveremos!

Liked Tres joli camping super bien des amenagements tres confortables. Au bord du gave avec sentier pietonnier. Ideal pour les enfants : des animations chq jours. A la disposition piscine, terrains de foot, fronton pelote basque. Possibilité de reserver le pdejeuner pour 6 €. TRES COPIEUX. Des emplacements super a la moyenne des campings

Liked Vibrant campsite with lots going on, the bar is relaxed and fun and the pool is large and clean. Great spot for adventures in the mountains. The owners were super helpful and really worked hard to keep the place clean, serve food and drinks and to be on hand, great stay!

Disliked The local village didn’t have many amenities but that’s just a minor point.

Local attractions

Several walking routes start nearby from Camping Le Saillet, including scenic ones along the river and one up to the sanctuary of Lourdes's Bétharram caves, the series of caverns near Asson, Saint-Pé-de-Bigorre and the site's local commune of Lestelle-Bétharram. A walk of almost three kilometres underground covers the levels dug into the mountain by the flowing river. Another excellent local option is Pau, the Pyrenees city with spectacular and famed views across the mountains. Also in town are the medieval monument of the Château de Pau, housing a national museum that's one of the most visited in France; Beaumont Park, a top picnic spot shaded by centenarian trees; the fine arts museum, with works from the fifteenth to twentieth centuries including by Rubens and Degas; the hillside Pavillon des Arts exhibition space, and several festivals running throughout the year. Nearby Lourdes is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the world and the most visited place in France after Paris. Across the bridge from the town centre and surrounded by extensive gardens is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, with churches, chapels and crypts including the huge and mostly underground Basilica of St Pius X, able to accommodate up to 25,000 people.
