It's free, quick and easy!
- Treehouses five minutes' drive from Saint-Antoine-de-Breuilh
- A 10-minute drive from canoeing on the Dordogne river
- Several wineries within walking distance or a short drive
Up, up and away to the treetop huts at Nuits Perchées à Laroque, a teeny site five minutes’ drive from Saint-Antoine-de-Breuilh. There are gorgeous and far-ranging rural views from your little nest among the branches, surrounded by centurian oaks.
Settle at this smashing site for days wending your way along the wine route from Bergerac to Saint-Émilion, both around 40 minutes’ drive away. Further sipping options are all around at the wineries between the two, with several within an hour’s walk and the closest, Château Moulin Caresse, within five minutes. A biodynamic vineyard borders the site for scenic and dreamy wanders.
As you roam, pick up a bottle or two for evenings on your own deck up in the trees. Accompanying eats can be acquired from a supermarket 10 minutes’ drive away, or from the small shops in town (particularly the fine fromagerie on its outer edge). There’s no electricity in the huts, but lamps and candles will cast a gentle glow on your feast as you watch the sun set.
For fuller feeds you’ve got the choice of heading into town to dine at a local bistro, or doing your own cheffing in the site’s kitchenette in a small building near the huts.

Local attractions
In Bergerac, seek out the Cyrano de Bergerac statue in the small wine museum before heading a little bit out of town to gorgeous Château de Monbazillac to taste the tiptop dessert wines made around these parts. There are plenty of other châteaux to visit in the surrounding countryside: if the choice is a little overwhelming, sign up for an introductory class at the Maison du Vin to learn about the area’s different varieties and styles.
Away from the wine, a watersports centre is 10 minutes away with canoe, kayak and paddleboard hire so you can explore the Dordogne river: two or three hours of paddling will take you to the villages of Pessac-sur-Dordogne or Lamothe-Montravel for a well-earned lunch.
For something a little more gentle, a golf course is 10 minutes’ drive away, or you could drive for 20 minutes to reach Lac de Gurson for walks in the forest followed by relaxing on the sandy beach and fishing or swimming in the lake.
