- Small Nova Scotia campsite close to Bear River
- A 15-minute drive to whale-watching hub Digby
- Gas grill, pizza oven and movie projector available for guests
Traditional camping pitches are given a boost with the provision of a collection of extra facilities at Tents Galore. This Nova Scotia site just outside Bear River (and about 15 minutes’ drive from Digby) only has a limited number of guests on site at any one time, so there’s plenty of space for everyone to relax on the grass pitches (or out in the woods if you’d like a bit more of a wilderness experience…)
Guests here have access to a good list of facilities – not just a flushing toilet and sink but also a gas grill, an outdoor pizza oven and a gazebo with a table where you can eat your meals. And as if that wasn’t enough, there’s also a video projector with a screen and DVD player so you can host open-air movie nights.
Barbecues are permitted here too, so you’ll have plenty of options when it comes to cooking your dinner. Pick up supplies over in Digby, or stop off there to eat out – it’s got various fast-food places as well as restaurants where you can sample some of the seafood the area’s famous for. Digby’s also the place to go for ferries, kayak rentals and wildlife-spotting boat tours to see the whales that live in the Bay of Fundy. Back on dry land there are several wineries you may like to visit within a couple of minutes’ drive…

Local attractions
If you only have time for one outing around here, it should certainly be a whale-watching tour from Digby (15 minutes’ drive). Boats from here go out into the Bay of Fundy, home to humpback, minke and finback whales. If you’d like to head out under your own steam in search of other wildlife, you can hire kayaks instead in Digby.
Back on dry land, there are some great walks in both the Acacia Valley (15 minutes) and the Delaps Cove area (35 minutes), which has waterfalls to see on your way to Meier Point. Shorter strolls might take you around Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens or Fort Anne National Historic Site (both 20 minutes), or you could take a waterside wander at Victoria Beach (40 minutes).
If you’d like to come back to a glass of local wine after your day out, stop by for a tour and tasting at one of the local wineries, where you can also buy bottles to take away. Both Bear River Vineyards (two minutes) and Casa Nova Fine Beverages (five minutes) are worth a stop.
