  • Family-friendly holiday park in Tweed Heads on the Mid North Coast
  • A five-minute drive from the Gold Coast's sandy beaches
  • Swimming pool; daily lorikeets feeding; undercover kitchen facilities
Heading on holiday in search of surf and national parks? Perhaps to conquer the Gold Coast’s big four theme parks? A stay at Pyramid Holiday Park should see you sorted. This family-friendly site is in the Twin Towns region of Tweed Heads, five minutes’ drive away from Coolangatta on the Gold Coast and its nearest sandy beach… and for more kicks of different sorts, it’s 15 minutes' drive away from the nearest national park and half an hour from the nearest theme park. Why drive when you can just saunter onto the streets? Shops and entertainment are plentiful and whichever world cuisine you prefer, there are plenty of restaurants a short walk away – or you could dine alfresco-style at one of the streetside cafés. Perhaps you’ll want to let someone else do the driving, as the site runs a courtesy shuttle bus stop (stopping at the entrance to the site). There are many convenient public transport links nearby, and handily the site sells theme park tickets and tours to help you plan ahead your itinerary. With so much to do out and about, you’ll want to factor in some time on the site too… perhaps sinking into the outdoor pool or some fishing? Tit for tat with some tennis or golf? The site also has a games room, playground and cheeky rainbow lorikeets who are fed daily (get involved if you wish). When you feel like taking on the role of head chef, there’s an undercover kitchen on site too (and shady surroundings to dig into your meal).

Local attractions

Any fears of twiddling thumbs around here will soon be gone… but where to first? Off to Snapper Rocks (10 minutes’ drive) to look out over the beachy surf hotspots? Animal shows, lorikeet feeds and animal encounters at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (10 minutes)? A juicy visit to the fruit farm at Tropical Fruit World (15 minutes)? Of course, the big four theme parks might already be on your checklist: Wet'n'Wild Gold Coast (half an hour), Warner Bros. Movie World (35 minutes), Dreamworld (35 minutes) or Sea World (40 minutes) are all within driving distance. Those of you who are attached to your walking gear will also be in for a treat, whether it’s wildlife spotting around the trails in Burleigh Head National Park (15 minutes), the rainforest in Mooball National Park (40 minutes) or the UNESCO World Heritage rainforest at Wollumbin National Park (45 minutes), where there’s a summit hike to Mount Warning. For sand between your toes and lava rocks, Fingal Head beach (15 minutes) is the place to go, but for waterfalls, horse riding and wildlife spotting, Springbrook National Park (55 minutes) is a sure bet.
