  • Peaceful Pembrokeshire site in a wildlife haven just off the A487
  • A 10-minute drive from Newgale beach; 20 minutes from St Davids
  • Picnic tables on site; pub two minutes' walk and bus stop close by
Hankering after a handily located park in Pembrokeshire with fantastic countryside views? Here’s one for you: Pelcomb Cross Campsite, just off the A487 and less than 10 minutes’ drive from the amenities of Haverfordwest and the nearest beach at Newgale. Eye up the lush nature from the pitches (some of which have a gentle slope) and look out for wildlife at the park’s pond too: it’s a popular spot for critters such as otters, herons, buzzards and red kites. There’s also plenty of space for human guests to relax, whether they’d like to chuck a ball around or just park up for a meal on one of the picnic benches. Eats are easy to sort as firepits and barbecues are allowed at this rural site (as long as they’re kept off ground to avoid scorching) and a pub is two minutes’ walk away if you’d prefer someone else to do the cooking. A petrol station with a well-stocked convenience store and a fish and chip shop are half a mile away. If you'd like to roam without the car, it's handy to note there's a bus stop about 80 metres from the site. As well as being close to amenities, the whole park feels safe and secure as it’s monitored by CCTV. Facilities centre around a smart modern bathroom block with underfloor heating, a couple of family-sized showers and an accessible toilet and shower. There’s also a pressurised boiler system to make sure there’s oodles of hot water for freshening up. Please note that there are no electric vehicle charging points on site. If you would like to 'trickle charge' your vehicle, please speak to site staff first.

What customers say

Lovely, quiet site. Great facilities, especially toilets/showers. Owners (Chris!) are a gem. Handy for Pembrokeshire. Spacious pitches, often with tables. Local pub's a bonus. A bit of road noise and some sloped pitches. Top spot for chill out!

Liked Lovely location, nice clean facilities, lovely hosts, close to a good pub, what more could you want?

Disliked Don’t trust the tumble dryer! Didn’t try the wifi as you have to pay for it.

From the manager: Thanks for the positives in your review. However we dont have a tumble dryer and the wifi is free and everyone is given the password on the booking confirmation which we email to everyone who stays here.

Abermawr Sunset fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely site well kept. Chris the owner came to see us once we settled in. He helped us out a couple of times in suggesting places to get a replacement touring mirror and a garage to sort out our car alarm. Toilet/shower block always clean. Even though it was a push button shower it was very powerful. Site is situated off the main road but you wouldn’t know it there due to the trees & hedges. Beautiful sunsets over the hills each night. Would definitely visit again.

Disliked Having to pack up and come home.

Newgale non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Booked this campsite and immediately received confirmation and lots of very useful information from Chris and Paula. Full list of places to visit, eat, drink etc. also a bus timetable as the bus stop was just a minutes walk from the site. Very handy for planning your day.
The site was lovely. We had a great pitch with all the facilities you need for a comfortable stay. The toilet/shower block was ample for the size of the site and was spotless.
Chris was always on hand should you require any help or guidance.
We had a great stay and wouldn't hesitate to book this site again.

Disliked Slight road noise but not bothersome.

Newgale non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked A three night stay with my son. The site was spot on, tidy and well cared for and the shower and toilet block was high quality and kept very clean each time we used it. There was a nice pond area my son enjoyed looking at, a nice bench on our pitch too, allowed us to enjoy some Fish and Chips and enjoy the countryside scene. Chris the owner was great, communicated details via text message, we could then arrive early evening and get straight into putting the tent up and getting settled in. Chris popped and spoke to us also the following evening, very friendly and nice to speak to. The location was great to allow us to sample the Tenby Coaster open top bus on two different days, that starts in Haverfordwest at 09:17 and returns just after 18:30, allowing us a great experience in Tenby and to take in some cracking countryside along the way. We will need to pop back here again, a nice quiet and relaxed location, we had a great nights sleep too.

Disliked Nothing, all good.

When coming into Pelcomb Cross from Haverfordwest, your Satnav may tell you to turn immediately by the Pelcomb Inn. This is not correct. The site entrance is 80 metres past the pub. If you are coming from St Davids, make sure to turn 80 metres before the pub. As you approach, look out for the site signs. What3words (for the main gate): before.risky.shameless.

Local attractions

Here for a beach break? Set off for Newgale with its surf schools galore (10 minutes' drive) and check out the vast sandy shores of Tenby (40 minutes) as well. This top seaside resort has several takeaways for snacking on fish and chips with a view of the sea. If the tiddlers have had enough time with the bucket and spade, organise a trip to Oakwood Theme Park (20 minutes) to ride the rollercoasters, then admire the animals at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (25 minutes). You could also interact with more creatures by booking a beach horse-riding trip from Nolton Stables (10 minutes). Take to the water after trotting on the sand during a visit to the Blue Lagoon aqua park (20 minutes), or dive into the Abereiddy Blue Lagoon (20 minutes), a brightly coloured pool that gets its turquoise hue from a slate bottom. Afterwards, get out on the sea with a boat trip from St Davids, a tiny city that’s also worth dropping by for the intricately designed cathedral and Bishop’s Palace (20 minutes).
