Highest point in pembrokeshire - right from your door

  • Quiet rural site one mile from the village shop, pub and café
  • A 20-minute drive to Fishguard; 30 minutes to the beaches
  • Lovely views over Preseli Hills; walk into the hills from the site
With mountain views and edging Pembrokeshire Coastal National Park, Brynhaul Camping and Shepherds Huts is quite the introduction to the rural beauty of remote West Wales. The views here are pretty spectacular, looking out over the Preseli Hills (and with no neighbours getting in the way), but there's so much to do outdoors around here that you’ll quite possibly want to get out and about straight away. Walks and bike rides can be taken straight from the site, and about half an hour's drive away, you'll hit the gorgeous Pembroke coastline, where you can paddle in the sea off sandy beaches, paddleboard to hidden coves and rootle around in rockpools with the kids (or go hardcore and have a go at coasteering). There’s plenty to do without even leaving the site – take the kids blackberrying, fly a kite or get them chopping kindling for your firepit. But wherever you land up during the day, try to get back in time for one of Brynhaul’s spectacular sunsets. Stargazers, thanks to the hillside location and lack of light pollution, you should be able to see the Milky Way, shooting stars and constellations overhead on clear nights. Campfires and barbecues are welcome here so pick up barbecue supplies from the handy store in Maenclochog (a mile away). If you fancy a change of scene, there’s also a pub in the village.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely views from every pitch. Each pitch has its own loo hut. Also a fire pit that you can use. If you need wood and firelighters you can buy that in the shower block area. Fridge and freezers are provided for your food. Very friendly owners. A great Café near by in the village that you can walk to that food breakfast, lunch and dinner. Other lovely walks near by. The Rosebush walk I can highly recommend, with a pub meal at the end in the Tafarn Sinc. Super food!

Hedgerow shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: Excellent stay in one of the pods. It had everything you could possibly need including the option to have the hot tub which was lovely in the evenings! Everything was clean and the owners were very friendly giving us some great locations for a day out. We will definitely have to visit again sometime

Local attractions

Pembrokeshire is packed with things to do for the outdoor enthusiast: canoeing, sailing, hiking, climbing, kayaking and coasteering are all close by, as are some rather gentler pursuits like scouring the hedgerows for blackberries, hazel and lichens. From Brynhaul, you can walk two miles to Foel Cwm Cerwyn, Pembrokeshire’s highest peak, for fine views over the Preseli Hills. A 30-minute drive takes you to the coast and its family-friendly beaches including Cwm yr Eglwys, Newport and Poppit Sands. Dinas Head is a popular spot too: it's got a lovely circular walk and rock pools to explore, and there are frequent seal sightings. Kids can snuggle up to gentle horses at Dyfed Shire Horse Farm in Eglwswrw (10 miles’ drive) or ride ponies across the hills from Mynachlog-ddu, 10 minutes away. There’s plenty of history around in West Wales too; medieval Pembroke Castle and its mighty ramparts may be top of your wish list, but you could also tour Castell Henllys Iron Age Village or pretend to be Stone Age settlers at 3,000-year-old Pentre Ifan Burial Chamber. They’re all less than a 40-minute drive.
