  • Peaceful and rural Welsh site attached to a historic Pembrokeshire pub
  • Stackpole 15 minutes’ drive and Folly Farm Adventure Park 25 minutes
  • Food, drink and beer garden on site; beaches within 15 minutes’ drive
Set on four acres of quiet countryside 10 minutes’ drive from Pembroke in South Wales, The Speculation Inn Campsite comes with a big bonus: a 200-year-old pub on site… because let’s be honest, camping is better when there’s a guaranteed pint at the end of the day. The Speculation Inn has been busy welcoming travellers for over two centuries, and now it welcomes tents, campervans, motorhomes, and anyone who enjoys fresh air followed by food, drink and a warm glow of smug contentment. With spacious pitches and a relaxed vibe, this is camping done properly – rural but comfortable… and slightly indulgent thanks to the historic pub a short stroll away. The owners have installed a modern and clean (no ‘rustic surprises’ here) shower block with separate facilities for men and women and washing-up sinks outside. There’s a small charge for showers, but there’s plenty of hot water to go round. You can get ultra-fast wifi across the entire property, so yes, you can stream, video call or pretend you’re working while actually looking at your favourite Insta sites. Dogs are welcome too, and you can exercise them on several outstanding Welsh beaches within 15 minutes’ drive of the pitches.

What customers say

Grand spot, owners are sound and always ready to lend a hand. The pub's a gem with great grub and a cozy vibe. Perfect base for hitting the beaches and sights. Pitches are decent and the place is tidy, though a few reckon the loos and showers need a bit of TLC, especially the water temp and cleanliness. Might hear a bit of road noise now and then.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Patch of grass with a pub on site.

Disliked As others have said, the road is remarkably noisy, bring ear plugs. Had to pay 20p for the shower, which I wouldn't mind, but it was freezing (or occasionally boiling!). We were there as there was an emergency alert about banning open fires, the staff allowed people to continue using fire pits which I was a bit uncomfortable with.

Great pub vibe, for people who aren’t too fused about cleanliness.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great pub with a super friendly atmosphere and great pizza! Competitively priced and a super location for exploring local beaches. The staff were lovely.

Disliked The shower block was not very clean. While the toilets appeared themselves to be clean the cubicles and general area was not. On top of this the shower flooded the whole block and was a bit inconsistent as to whether it would work or not. There was also no hot water for washing up. Additionally the pitches were not the flattest especially on the side by the road. We arrived back after a short trip to the beach to find someone had pitched up on top of our things (that we had left to mark our pitch as taken) but someone had told them we had left. This was not the campsites fault but could have been mitigated with some more organisation from the campsite themselves about knowing who was camping where and which pitches were available. It didn’t seem to be very organised in general.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Nice clean site, plenty of space. Good base for surrounding areas, Bar and pizza on site. Plenty of recycling options, slept well close to a road but not a busy one. Plenty of space for children to play. Owner sent welcome message with which site and WiFi information.

Disliked Toilet and showers, happy to pay for showers if clean. Toilet floor was soaking from the shower. Hot water was from a heater in the ladies, Mens heater broke and no hot water in pot wash area.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Price was very competettive, good size pitch, good location, the inn when open pizzas were good too, toilets and shower good

Disliked Our fault for pitching too close to the road side of the site, being a light sleeper was woken in the early hours by traffic noise, as we found out later was shift change traffic from the Valero refinery works, heavy sleepers will be ok

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely quiet site that has easy access to some amazing sites and beaches. The site is well kept with minimal facilities but was perfect for our needs. The owners and management team were amazing!!! All were friendly, approachable and more than accommodating. They carried out regular checks on the site and facilities making sure maintenence was kept to a high standard and that everyone was happy. We felt very welcome to be there and completely safe. The pub on site was a bonus and we enjoyed many pints and pizza's during our stay, along with games of ping pong and scrabble. We really look forward to returning in future.

Disliked Showers were a little challenging and could do with a curtain/ higher surrounding to contain the water at the bottom. But 20p for 6 minutes is great value and they were hot.

Local attractions

Several beaches with different vibes are nearby; the sweep of sand at Freshwater West (10 minutes’ drive) is the one for surfing and rock pooling, and don’t miss the stone cairn at Dobby’s Grave. The inlet at West Angle Bay is sheltered, and Broad Haven South is known for stunning sunsets. You have a cliff path to negotiate down to gorgeous Barafundle Bay (all three are 15 minutes away by car) but it’s worth the effort for the calm sea, safe for novice swimming. Kids needing more entertainment? Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (25 minutes) is a fun-filled day out, with animal encounters and fairground rides (and indoor fun if the weather turns on you). Likewise, Heatherton World of Activities (20 minutes) is packed with family activities like paintballing, archery and mini golf to keep everyone having fun. If you can, sneak in a bit of culture. As featured in ‘His Dark Materials’, St Govan’s Chapel (15 minutes) is a minuscule hermit’s cave tucked into the cliffside. You can have a bit of a potter around Stackpole Walled Gardens (10 minutes), where kids will enjoy finding the Gaudí-style crocodile sculptures, and at National Trust - Stackpole (15 minutes), you can all search for the mysterious wickerwork figures hidden in woodland glades.
