Wild Coastal Camping: Tent pitched on site

General

  • Wild camping site with direct access to the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
  • A 15-minute walk to Broad Haven beach; half an hour to Druidston beach
  • Woodland walk on site; walking distance from pubs and restaurants

Kick back with the Pembrokeshire Coast Path on your doorstep, then go surfing, canoeing or paddleboarding down at Broad Haven beach, 15 minutes’ walk away. That’s a little taste of the life at Wild Coastal Camping, a wild camping site in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park with splendid sea views over St Brides Bay and direct access to the coastal path.

There are other options for getting your sea fix, of course, like sea angling down at Druidston beach half an hour’s walk away or wildlife spotting around the coastal trails. There are plenty of walks and wildlife hotspots within walking distance of the site, as it's on the edge of a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Common sights include puffins, peregrine falcons, choughs, seals, rabbits or even donkeys.

Since the site is part of a working farm, there are portaloo facilities (due to rules in the national park), hot showers for cleaning up and a mains water supply. That’s not forgetting the woodland walk around the farm if you’re pining for more peaceful strolls.

As well as watersports equipment hire, Broad Haven also has a rather excellent selection of bars, pubs, cafés and restaurants for you to take your pick from. There's a food shop on the waterfront, making it easy to keep on top of your food stores (and you may be interested to ask around about the alien sightings in the 1970s too).

Please note

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

Minimum spacing of 3 metres between pitches.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Bookings for campervan pitches must not be for more than 2 consecutive nights.

    Portaloos

From the manager...

Our Pitchup site clearly advertises the use of Portaloos (as permanent facilities cannot be constructed within National Parks). Also, 'wild camping' by definition entails basic facilities. However, we are investigating alternatives to Portaloos for next season.

Owners were super friendly, and came to say hello when we first arrived and offered us a Swedish log fire and then came to say hi again when we returned on the second night to see if we wanted another one. They were very easy to get hold of when we needed them in the night too. Facilities are super basic but as long as you’re cool with wild camping then they’re great. The view was amazing, and we had no problems pitching our tent in the ground. It is also right next to a beautiful walking/hiking trail which can be accessed from the field. I love that there are recycling facilities and drinking water available too. If you’re happy with a porter loo and outdoor sink then I cannot recommend this site enough, 10/10.

An improved showering facility would have been appreciated but it wasn’t a big deal for us.

I can strongly recommend this site to anyone who wants to just get away from it all sit in the middle of nowhere and take in incredible Views and watch the sun set in the sea! Yes it's basic out door shower and porterloo but what else do you need really?? It was clean and that's all that matters to me, it added to the experience. We had a little walk into Broad Haven village and although it's small it had lovely places to grab food and a drink whilst looking out to the sea. Incredible beach too!

Basic camping at its best09/23/2021

Very basic campsite with chemical toilets, chlorinated water (not always there on basic sites), wash basins and shower tent. All of these are situated well back from the main field so requires a walk.

It has tremendous views over St Brides' Bay. The owner comes round in the evening to check people in and sells Swedish fire logs. They are very atmospheric as the sun goes down over the sea.

Very lovely and quiet place with easy access to Pembrokeshire coastal path and near to Haverfordwest.

Great views and plenty of space. Great location close to the village and beach where there was a good shop and pub and restaurant. Facilities were a little far from the sleeping area especially at night but I liked the open shower which was nice and hot.

    Disliked:

The peaceful site was spoilt by a group who had loud music and were screeching and shouting from 11am to 4pm.

From the manager...

We're very sorry that a group of bank holiday revellers disrespected our policies and spoiled your sleep. We contacted the offending party about 11pm and assumed this would be the end of the matter. Unfortunately, as no further complaints were received, we were unaware that the noise had persisted (perhaps a case of bystander apathy). Next season we will endeavour to monitor sound levels and identify potentially disruptive groups.

Local attractions

Those of you who are on a mission to tick off some of Pembrokeshire’s coastal havens will be in luck. The site is just a short journey from Little Haven (five minutes’ drive), a very characterful fishing village with a beach. If you want to join the surf brigade at Newgale beach (15 minutes), simply hire out a board from the beach and line up out back.

If catching swells isn’t enough of a thrill, your next stop could be Oakwood Theme Park (half an hour) or the Blue Lagoon Water Park (half an hour) for rollercoasters, slides and that sort of stuff.

Family-friendly options for theme parks, especially if your kids are on the younger side, include Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (35 minutes) and Heatherton World of Activities (35 minutes). In fact, Heatherton has its own high ropes course, which will really put your bravery to the test.

It’s likely you’ve already done your fair share of wildlife spotting along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, so to continue along those lines, there’s a walking safari around Manor Wildlife Park (35 minutes).

Must see

  • St Davids Cathedral (9.2 miles)
  • Pembrokeshire Coast National Park (9.5 miles)
  • Pembroke Castle (11.3 miles)

National Trust

  • St David's Visitor Centre and Shop (9.2 miles)
  • Stackpole Estate (13.9 miles)
