  • Family-friendly rural hideaway on a farm site with sea views
  • A 30-minute drive from Tenby and 20 minutes from Laugharne
  • Food shop and dog park; barbecues and campfires; coastal paths nearby
Grab your best beach gear and strap on your sturdiest shoes… when staying at Thorning Farm Glamping and Camping, the Camarthenshire coast is yours to uncover. Within 30 minutes’ drive of Tenby’s sandy beaches and 20 minutes from a mecca of Welsh poetry in the town of Laugharne, this Pendine site is well-versed in the art of coastal living, with sea views from the site and two coastal paths spinning out to local sandy beaches. Simply pick your plot among these hideaway pitches, settle down with your family, dogs or partner (whichever you please)… and hike, mountain bike or kayak your way around the coves and clifftops. As the day comes to a close, head back to site to warm the evening with a barbecue or campfire, storing any bits for the grill in the communal fridge. If you’re missing your favourite condiment, there’s a food shop on site or more shops within a 10-minute drive. Everyone is made to feel welcome here, even those of the canine kind, as there’s a dog park for them to stretch their legs. And for when you fancy a meal out, the small strip in Pendine, 10 minutes’ drive, has a nice selection of restaurants and bars where you can dig into a meal… with a side dish of sea views, too.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: The space of the pitches and the spaciousness of the site. The simplicity of the set up and the luxury of having your own loo. The closeness to the coastal path and the remoteness from any tourist spot. The friendliness of the owners and the great little shop as well as the breakfasts and amazing pizzas baked on site. Whatelse could you want! A clear nightime sky full of the brightest stars after a rainy day was the highlight of our stay.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Good food, nice owners

Disliked: The walk to the beach is not a walk, it's a full blown trek. The campsite is extremely exposed on the clifftop, and feels very cut off and remote. I wouldn't describe it as luxury either. It's nice, but it's not luxury. The shower is also just a shed.

From the manager: I left this awhile because I was hoping you were going to remove this review, but here we go. Sophie that’s not what you said while you were here. When your tent was leaking in the rain and we put you and your family in one of our bell tents for the rest of your holiday and I quote. Thank you guys again for all your help, it really means a lot! And Having a lovely evening in the bell tent, thank you guys again for saving our holiday And Hi Carly, as the weather is better today we've packed up as early as we can to try and fit in one last trip out before we go. Hopefully everything is left as it should be. Thank you both again for all the help you've given us, we've had a great trip and wouldn't have managed it without you. X So sorry you are so unhappy that you felt the need to do this strange review and just because it says anonymous doesn’t mean that Pitch Up don’t give us the right to find out who you are so reviews can be answered fairly. I’m just glad that you were polite and kind to my face, even though you and the children were under immense strain from your shouting swearing husband who we had to tell to calm down on more then one occasion. I wish you and the kids all the best and I hope you find happiness. Ps Not likely to have luxury on an eco-campsite to be honest lol

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: - View and location near coastal path - Quiet - Spacious - Shop and food on site (they sell ice as well) open 5pm-7pm - Fire pitches - Compost Toilet on every pitch

Disliked: - Only 1 shower for the whole campsite, although we had a nice shower an instruction on how to regulate the hot water would have been helpful. - Some corners were a bit messy.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Lots of space, own pitch with no one nearby, own private compost loo, flat pitches, can have a fire, friendly and helpful staff, beautiful location with a short walk to large sandy beach.

Disliked: Couldn't get the shower to stay hot but didn't speak to staff about it so it could have been my fault.

Local attractions

Take a turn on all manner of rides in one of several theme parks in the area, from the big coasters of Oakwood Theme Park (half an hour’s drive) to the smaller chugging trains and swings of Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (20 minutes) or the assorted antics at Heatherton World of Activities (half an hour). A pre-historic twist on amusement, Dinosaur Park (half an hour) has plenty more roaring rides; afterwards, cool off on the slides at Blue Lagoon Water Park (half an hour). For something less adrenaline-fuelled, stroll through the valley of Colby Woodland Garden (15 minutes), perhaps stopping at the tea room for a cuppa. There are hundreds more plant species under the glass dome in the Botanic Garden of Wales (40 minutes), and once you’re done with the plants, you can visit the animal world on a walking safari through Manor Wildlife Park (25 minutes). Over in Laugharne (20 minutes), you can visit the grave of one of Wales’ most adored poets and walk through his old stomping grounds in the Dylan Thomas Boathouse. Further into the village, it's easy to see why the ruins of Laugharne Castle (20 minutes) inspired his verses.
