  • Family-friendly rural hideaway on a farm site with sea views
  • A 30-minute drive from Tenby and 20 minutes from Laugharne
  • Food shop and dog park; barbecues and campfires; coastal paths nearby
Grab your best beach gear and strap on your sturdiest shoes… when staying at Thorning Farm Glamping and Camping, the Camarthenshire coast is yours to uncover. Within 30 minutes’ drive of Tenby’s sandy beaches and 20 minutes from a mecca of Welsh poetry in the town of Laugharne, this Pendine site is well-versed in the art of coastal living, with sea views from the site and two coastal paths spinning out to local sandy beaches. Simply pick your plot among these hideaway pitches, settle down with your family, dogs or partner (whichever you please)… and hike, mountain bike or kayak your way around the coves and clifftops. As the day comes to a close, head back to site to warm the evening with a barbecue or campfire, storing any bits for the grill in the communal fridge. If you’re missing your favourite condiment, there’s a food shop on site or more shops within a 10-minute drive. Everyone is made to feel welcome here, even those of the canine kind, as there’s a dog park for them to stretch their legs. And for when you fancy a meal out, the small strip in Pendine, 10 minutes’ drive, has a nice selection of restaurants and bars where you can dig into a meal… with a side dish of sea views, too.

Jay geodesic dome (sea view)

Liked Loved the dome, lots of space. Great private garden for the kids and we would take our dog next time. Great access to the coastal paths, and huge beach just below but a very steep walk back up. Fantastic views and would definitely recommend.
Loved having a fridge and small freezer, special touch with the heated blankets and extra blankets for the children.
We drove to different places everyday, most attractions reachable within half an hours drive. Pendine beach is huge if you’re looking for beach days. Saundersfoot and Tenby were great for town day trips and the coastal paths in the area are stunning.

Disliked Nothing we disliked, we had a lovely time.
Perhaps access to hot water for washing up would be good and although we appreciate the ethos behind eco toilets we found them difficult to use, ie too high for little people and awkward to use with feet not touching the floor. Maybe a stool would help if provided.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Stunning location with access to the most beautiful coastal path and beach, amazing views. Private compost loos on each pitch with fire pit and bench. Immersed in nature, friendly family run, dog friendly. Close to Tenby for a day out. Pizza on Wednesday and Saturday. On site communal fridge. Kids enjoyed campfires and looking at the stars.

Disliked We were camping for several nights and would definitely return. Just some consideration for some if camping. There is a shower block with only one shower which has some drainage issues but mostly gave a warm shower with reasonable pressure.
The lane to access the site is indeed long and certain vehicles will need to take extra care. But when I think back to our time at thorning camp I do think of some of the amazing things we saw by driving slowly up and down that lane, a pig grazing in a field, beautiful horses everyday, poppies, lots of green. If you're into finding beauty in moments and love nature the lane is well worth the trip respectfully.

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Fabulous location and views, good size pitches, facilities basic but meets needs, nice and clean too. Nice walks from site to secluded beaches.

Disliked May need levelling chocks for some pitches.

Sandpiper geodesic dome (sea view)

Liked What a beautiful place!! We stayed in the sandpiper ecodesic dome, there was so much space inside with a very comfy/cosy double bed and bunk beds (which my children loved!) the views were incredible and totally unspoilt view from our dome.
The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful.
We took a stroll through one of the coastal paths just by the site and came out on to a beautiful beach, for most of our time there we were the only ones :)
The site itself is great with a cute play area and shop/cafe.
The children have had the best time “our best holiday in the UK ever!!”
We have loved everything about our stay and will be booking again for next year!!

Non-electric grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Great private pitches, each with it's own toilet cubicle! Really friendly and helpful owners. Great view (when we could see it - we visited on a very wet and misty weekend!)

Disliked Quite a bumpy, stony track to get to the campsite, but this was a minor annoyance, and definitely wouldn't stop us from coming back again.

The shower could have done with a shelf and/or hook to keep belongings on whilst showering.

Local attractions

Take a turn on all manner of rides in one of several theme parks in the area, from the big coasters of Oakwood Theme Park (half an hour’s drive) to the smaller chugging trains and swings of Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (20 minutes) or the assorted antics at Heatherton World of Activities (half an hour). A pre-historic twist on amusement, Dinosaur Park (half an hour) has plenty more roaring rides; afterwards, cool off on the slides at Blue Lagoon Water Park (half an hour). For something less adrenaline-fuelled, stroll through the valley of Colby Woodland Garden (15 minutes), perhaps stopping at the tea room for a cuppa. There are hundreds more plant species under the glass dome in the Botanic Garden of Wales (40 minutes), and once you’re done with the plants, you can visit the animal world on a walking safari through Manor Wildlife Park (25 minutes). Over in Laugharne (20 minutes), you can visit the grave of one of Wales’ most adored poets and walk through his old stomping grounds in the Dylan Thomas Boathouse. Further into the village, it's easy to see why the ruins of Laugharne Castle (20 minutes) inspired his verses.
