Boris on a little walk to visit the shepards hut and the sleeping giant lodge

  • Peaceful farm site in the Brecon Beacons, five minutes from Abercraf
  • A five-minute drive to the National Showcaves; 45 mins to Pen y Fan
  • Animals to meet on site; pizzas and snacks available in the evenings
So quiet you can hear the owls hooting after dark – sound like the kind of place for you? Then get along to Glamorgan and Cae Glas Camping, in the Brecon Beacons National Park and five minutes’ drive from the village of Abercraf. That blissful peace and quiet is the reason most guests cite for choosing a stay here – and as such you’ll be asked to keep the noise down, particularly after dark, to ensure a sense of calm for both visitors and wildlife. To further boost that peaceful vibe facilities have been kept to a minimum, but all guests will have access to toilets, showers and a washing-up area and are welcome to bring along dogs and barbecues. There's a firepit area here too, and firewood can be purchased on site. There are some stunning mountain views to be had here, and sitting down to admire them for a while is a most rewarding option. That said, there’s plenty of activity nearby should you wish: this is waterfall walk country, and a riding centre just down the road that can sort pony treks for all the family. It’s also a short drive to get to places like Craig y Nos Castle and the National Showcaves Centre for Wales or a slightly longer one (about 45 minutes) to Pen y Fan, the National Botanic Garden of Wales and the beaches of the Gower Peninsula.

What customers say

Lovely rural spot with great mountain views and a peaceful vibe. Guests loved the brilliant showers and the hosts. Well-kept site with farm animals and a cafe. Minor gripes like uneven pitches but mostly fantastic and highly recommended.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked We absolutely loved this site and didnt want to go home. Stayed for 3 nights, weekend just gone, 2 adults, 2 kids (12 & 8) and 1 dog. Quiet, great views, clean toilets, lovely shower (and looks like they are installing another which will be handy for busy times).
Kids loved being able to go and see the animals and the animals are clearly used to people being around and liked a fuss which is a bonus, especially the goats, alpacas, donkeys, pigs and highland cows. Their dogs are super friendly aswell.
We had pizza on the last night from the site which was lovely and would definitely recommend, we ordered in the morning ready for 6.30pm which worked out great.
Owners are lovely.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked Nice pitching area, secluded and away from the main road, lovely view of the side of the mountain, very close to Craig Y Nos and Dan Yr Ogof, some nice animals around to look at and interact with, good washing up facilities.

Disliked Shower was a bit dodgy as the screen door was loose, someone's exfoliating glove was left in there also, the Highland cows on site were covered in matted feces and swarmed with hundreds of flies.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked Lovely small rural campsite. Very quiet atmosphere with a soft background sound of farm animals. Amazing views and overall a great vibe.

Disliked If travelling by motorbike be prepared for a steep but manageable road with a gravel path. There are several good grassy pitch sites, but most of the ground is too steep to pitch a tent.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked A wonderful site on the edge of the Brecons. As described this is a simple site but special mention to the toilet/shower room. A huge shower with plentiful hot water.
We ordered Pizza's from our host on Saturday evening and they were delivered to our door and delicious.
We planned a circular walk to Henrhyd Falls - about 7miles in total.

Local attractions

Once you’ve dragged yourselves away from the views on site, it’s time to explore the surrounding area. Start close by with a horseback trek from the local stables (five minutes’ drive) or a walk to Henrhyd Falls (10 minutes). The National Showcaves Centre for Wales (five minutes) is a fab place to visit on any day, but makes a particularly good option for a wet-weather day out. If the nippers need a little break from all the scenery admiring, perhaps they’d appreciate a visit to meet the cheeky residents of Wales Ape & Monkey Sanctuary (10 minutes). And if the grownups need a treat to spur them along to the end of a hike, maybe a little something from the whisky and gin selections at Penderyn Distillery (25 minutes)? A bit further afield there’s plenty to explore around the Brecon Beacons National Park, including the splendid Four Falls Walk (half an hour) and the uphill challenge of Pen y Fan (45 minutes), the tallest British peak south of Snowdonia. The National Botanic Garden of Wales and Mumbles beach are both 45 minutes away if you’re after something a little less energetic.
