  • Small family-run caravan park 10 minutes’ drive from Whitchurch
  • Marches Mosses 15 minutes’ drive; Chester 35 minutes
  • Dogs welcome; picnic tables; nearby woodland and wetland walks
In a splendidly rural corner of eastern Wales, close to the border with England, Chapel Farm Meadows is a small family-run caravan park. The vibe here is gloriously peaceful, with the exception of the occasional bell ringing from pretty St Mary’s Church, a few minutes' walk away, and the birds in the trees (woodpeckers, jays, buzzards, Harris hawks and curlews are frequent spottings here). It also feels somewhat remote, but really, you’re less than half a mile from the A525 road, which takes you all the way to the Shropshire market town of Whitchurch (10 minutes’ drive), to sample a meal at any of the local eateries or stock up on provisions for the barbecue, which you can then devour at one of the picnic tables. Other amenities at this dog-friendly spot include a portable toilet and a chemical disposal point; be aware, however, that there is no hot water on site. Still, it’s a very small price to pay for this spectacular location, which puts you within easy access of places like Fenn’s, Whixall & Bettisfield Mosses National Nature Reserve (also known as the Marches Mosses), an area of raised bogs and heathland inhabited by dragonflies and butterflies; and Brown Moss, with woodland walks and assorted birdlife (both areas are about 15 minutes away).

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked I loved everything about this site! Its simple and as described.

I was greeted on arrival by a lovely cheerful chap, shown to a pitch and facilities explained.

The site was immaculate, extremely well maintained, clean and tidy. The toilet/shower was of a very high standard, and lovely and hot.

The site is in a lovely peaceful location.

Will definitely use again when in the area!

Electric optional grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Warm and friendly site. The host was great the lady that was there when we arrived and during our stay could not have been more helpful.
Small and quite site, but just what we wanted.
Facilities clean, with hand towels and soap on hand in the bathroom.

Disliked Not really dislike, but could do with another toilet, although only small site would benefit from another unit.

Beautiful little site wouldn't hesitate visiting again

Local attractions

Bounce on, slide down and climb the inflatable structures at Alderford Lake (10 minutes’ drive), where there are also kayaks and paddleboards for hire (and introductory lessons, if you’re a newbie). For a different lakeside experience, head to The Mere - Ellesmere (15 minutes), with waterside paths and birdwatching. On the outskirts of Wrexham, National Trust - Erddig (25 minutes) is an elegant mansion from the 17th century with expansive grounds that include forest, lakes and meadows. Check out the natural play area in the woods and the Erddig Cup & Saucer Hydraulic Ram, an artificial ground-level waterfall. Take a walk atop the medieval walls in Chester (35 minutes) or climb up the tower of the 11th-century cathedral – either activity comes with great views of the city. The history of Chester goes all the way back to the Romans, who left an amphitheatre and a mosaic-dotted garden.
