  • Anglesey glamping site with converted ex-military trucks
  • A 10-minute drive from Llanddwyn beach and sand dunes
  • Large on-site café and kids' play area
Rally the troops and get ready for a glamping experience like no other at this pretty island location in North Wales. Located about 10 minutes' drive from the nearest sandy beach and sand dunes and roughly a mile from the small village of Niwbwrch/Newborough, Anglesey Transport Museum Glamping Holidays is home to a handful of ex-military trucks decked out for cosy outdoor breaks. Although all of the units have a military past, with one of them dating all the way back to the Second World War, you won't be slumming it – each unit has comfy interiors, with proper beds and cooking facilities. All of the trucks have access to well-maintained toilet and shower facilities too, as well as access to a outdoor space with individual firepits and dedicated parking. When you're not sleeping soundly or gazing out at views over Snowdonia, head down to the café for drinks and tasty morsels (open between 10am and 5pm every day). The signature big breakfast option is always welcome, especially if you've worked up an appetite while bivouacking and hiking around the island.

What customers say

Cracking glamping spot behind the transport museum. Spotless facilities and cosy, well-kitted-out ex-military vehicles. Fam-friendly cafe & play area. Handy for beaches & shops. Staff are sound. Cafe a bit dear, loos can be tight, but grand overall. Highly recommend!

Dwynwen the Military Bedford TM on-site touring caravan (two person)

Liked Good Location. Enjoyed the Novelty of the accommodation. Felt safe and enjoyed relaxed atmosphere whilst son played at play area in the evenings. Comfy bed and my son loved how dark it was with all the windows shut! .Utensils were good for what we needed for two nights.

Disliked Only one toilet and shower for everyone to share so a couple more needed. There was a small mirror in cabinet but one on wall would be good. Small rug next to bed as cold in mornings.

Lady Jess the 1944 Leyland Hippo on-site touring caravan (four person)

Liked Comfortable beds, well stocked kitchen (more like an Airbnb than something on pitchup), kids’ play area close to the accommodation (you can see them play but it wouldn’t be imposing if you didn’t have children), the green space in the middle of the campsite, the mountain views, the fire pit and bbq were a nice touch. We liked all of it and would return

Disliked We didn’t dislike anything but more to guide other people. The steps up to the accommodation could be a problem if you had a smaller toddler than ours (ours was 26 months at time of travel), the one shower/one toilet thing that others mentioned could be a problem for some but I think we waited once and for only like 2 minutes.

Monty the Landy Forward Control on-site touring caravan (two person)

Liked Lovely campsite at the back of the transport museum. Cafe on site open which is also open to the general public. Very quiet location and 10minutes drive to one of the best beaches in Anglesey. Staff lovey, friendly and very helpful. Toilets and shower very clean. Washing machines available.
Pitches available for camper vans but we actually clamped for the first time. Stayed in an ex-military vehicle called Monty with my young son. Plenty of room and very comfortable.
Close to a shop, chippy and pub. 5 mins drive

Disliked Little bit pricey in the cafe but it is a tourist cafe and where isn't it a bit expensive these days.

Monty the Landy Forward Control on-site touring caravan (two person)

Liked Lovely well kept site with nice staff and facilities. We stayed in Monty, my son loved it and so did I. Well equipped with all you need, just turn up with fresh clothes. I over packed not realising there were utensils, pots pans, tea sugar etc. Clean and cosy. My boys already asking if we can go back in the summer holidays. Anglesey also had tons for us to see & do and some spectacular beaches.
We'll definitely be back again

Lady Jess the 1944 Leyland Hippo on-site touring caravan (four person)

Liked We stayed in Lady Jess which was great. The sute was lovely, peaceful, clean and well presented. Theres a park on site which the kids loved.

Disliked Theres only 1 toilet and 1 shower on the camping site so although its a small campsite (3 other glampers) there were occasions they were in use.

Lady Jess the 1944 Leyland Hippo on-site touring caravan (four person)

Liked We had a lovely weekend at Anglesey Transport Museum. The kids loved the experience of sleeping in the converted wagon. The on site cafe, play area and museum were an added bonus to the stay, we didn't need to worry about cooking any food as the cafe had everything to offer. We would definitely stay again.

Local attractions

In addition to the vehicles that have been repurposed for glamping accommodation, the on-site museum has a great collection of vintage cars, motorbikes, farm vehicles, static engines and transport memorabilia, all of which is well worth a look. The museum is open daily between 10am and 5pm. In the immediate vicinity, Niwbwrch/Newborough has both a beach and a forest to explore; there's also the scenic Ynys Llanddwyn, an island that has been used in many films and TV shows. Watersports are another possible option, and there are lots of different companies in the surrounding area offering guided excursions and kit hire. Menai Bridge (20 minutes' drive) has a paddleboarding outfit that's well-reviewed, while sea kayakers can take to the waves at Newry Kayaking in Holyhead (half an hour). Thanks to its bridges, Anglesey is also within easy reach of attractions in mainland Wales, including the scenic seaside resort of Bangor (25 minutes), Caernarfon Castle (30 minutes) and the beaches of the Llŷn Peninsula (about an hour). It's also simple to set off for day trips to Snowdonia National Park to explore the peaks you can see from site (the edge of the park is about half an hour away).
