  • Outdoorsy back to basics site on the outskirts of Llanberis
  • Direct access to the Llanberis Path and the Snowdown Ranger Path
  • Basic facilities including a fridge, freezer, microwave and food van
Looking for a basic camping pitch that can be used as a basecamp for summiting Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon)? Enter: Camping in Llanberis, which has direct access to the Llanberis Path and the Snowdon Ranger Path, two routes of varying difficulties which lead to the summit of the tallest mountain in Wales. Suited to the outdoorsy type who doesn’t expect any luxury facilities, this is a back to basics site where the team are happy to hand over some friendly local knowledge and advice. There’s no need to book or find the car parks for Yr Wyddfa here. Plus, the Pen y Pass paths are also easily accessible by car or a Sherpa bus. Camping in Llanberis is just a 10-minute stroll from Llanberis, where there are shops, restaurants, cafés and attractions like the Llanberis Lake Railway. It’s a 25-minute walk from the Snowdon Mountain Railway station for those of you who don’t want to make the dash to the summit. It's also a great basecamp for those attending trail running events like Ultra-Trail Snowdonia and the Snowdon Marathon. The Snowdonia Slate Trail, a long-distance path stretching for 83 miles, is a 15-minute drive away for hikers. Site facilities consist of a toilet block with coin-operated hot showers and washing-up facilities, a fridge, freezer and microwave and phone-charging plugs. There is also a food van on site.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: This is a great campsite to use as a base before or after climbing Snowdon. You can choose your own pitch, and the site offers plenty of toilets spread around. The main facilities, including showers, are located near the reception. The kids might like to know there are sheep roaming the fields, so you may have a few sleeping by your tent ⛺️ 😀

Disliked: I didn't realise they had a food van that served food from 6am until 8pm at weekends, it was a little bit disappointing it wasn't open both days because the food sounded yummy. Additionally, while this isn’t the campsite's fault, it's worth noting that the pitches are grassy and quite hilly. If you're using a roof tent or worried about your car on wet days, take caution as getting off the grass might be tricky.

Liked: Lovely friendly site, basic but every thing up need. Amazing dark skies

Disliked: If there is a negative it's that the camping fields do have slopes but it's easy enough to find a flat place & the views make up for it

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Very friendly reception. Beautiful views, clean restrooms. Nice walk to the village down the hill. If you do not drive, be prepared for a hilly walk back from the village. The sheep also roam, and poop in the fields around the tents. I didn't realize this, and it wasn't an issue for us, but pointing out for others.

Disliked: There was a dog running free who peed on our tent. Not the campsite's fault. I love dogs, but they do require dogs be on leash, and clearly some guests ignore this.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Great views from the site, toilets were clean, staff friendly and helpful. Llanberis and ranger path within short distance to hike up mount snowden. Site has showers, dryer, freezer, toilets and washing facilities. The reception sells basic things you need during your stay and the town is a 10 min walk for shops, pubs and eateries.

Disliked: There are random spots where people have laid rocks and stones to build fire pits. Just be careful when walking around at night.
