  • In Snowdonia National Park, five minutes’ drive from sandy beaches
  • A five-minute drive from Harlech and 25 minutes from the Gwyllt
  • Welcome box, patio chiminea, and barbecue, cutlery and plates supplied
Sunsets, sea views and heaps of space to breathe... if that sounds just splendid, settle in at Uwch Glan Glamping, five minutes’ drive from the Gwynedd town of Harlech. The site’s in Snowdonia National Park, so spend days wandering the countryside and coast nearby, starting with a 20-minute stroll as far as Llandanwg beach and the café that overlooks it, or a five-minute drive to longer sandy stretches in Harlech. The long-distance Wales Coast Path passes about five minutes’ walk from the site if something further flung appeals. Evenings should pass in a state of bliss as guests tuck into their welcome box packed full of Welsh goodies and basic supplies, before firing up the barbecue for dinner (cutlery and plates – and barbecue – are provided) and cosying up next to the patio chimnea for a meal under the stars. Ie, os gwelwch yn dda… (That’s a resounding ‘yes, please’.)

Local attractions

Start stays hereabouts with a trip into Harlech seaside resort town, five minutes’ drive from base. As well as a spectacular beach overlooking Tremadog Bay, there are shops, pubs, cafés and an ice cream parlour to poke around, and the UNESCO-listed Harlech Castle, which looms over the town. Keep one foot in the past after visiting the castle with jaunts to the National Trust sites of Ty Mawr Wybrnant and Plas yn Rhiw, both within about an hour of the site. The scenic Ty Mawr Wybrnant farmhouse was the birthplace of the first person to translate the bible into Welsh, while the manor house and gardens at Plas yn Rhiw have fab views over the Irish Sea. If gardens inspire joy, aim for ecstatic in Portmeirion (25 minutes away), where a subtropical forest – the Gwyllt – is full of exotic plants, lily-covered lakes, secret coves and even a ghost garden. More keen on seeing that which lies below the surface? Stick closer to base camp by wandering to Llanfair Slate Caverns, a 20-minute stroll from the site, for self-guided tours of the old mines. This is a particularly pretty part of Wales, so further explores come highly recommended. Head seaward by travelling to Criccieth – castle, shops, restaurants and a famed ice cream parlour – and on tothe Llyn Peninsula, or turn away from the ocean altogether to dive deeper into Snowdonia: Snowdon is less than an hour away…
