  • Small campsite an in idyllic and family-friendly riverside location
  • Enjoy swimming, fishing, stargazing, sounds of the river and wildlife
  • Huge tents with beds, Kaidai firebowls, picnic tables and toilets
This is a truly beautiful location providing families with an opportunity to live, sleep and breathe surrounded by nothing but a luxuriant nature. There you'll find a host of activities to keep you entertained by day or by night: you can cook on campfires, swim at your heart content and fish in a wild river. Under the canopy of dark skies and glaring Milky Way, go to sleep at night lulled by the beautiful tune composed by the sounds of the river and owls; then wake up to the dawn chorus (and then back to sleep again if you have any sense!). The site is huge, spread over about 6 acres, with approximately 400 meters of private riverbank all in a small wooded valley near Criccieth and within a few miles of the Snowdonia National Park. As a result, during your stay there, you'll have plenty of space to laze about and relax. Because the essence of this space is its natural beauty and serenity, the site doesn't provide electricity, allow loud music or cars. You'll never feel annoyed by these rules as the payback is huge - this is the real natural world if what you fancy is a return to basics and communion with nature. The campsite is well-lit thanks to burning torches and campfires and with all this music of nature, don't you feel like it would be just like a dream to camp there? Given that you'll be at the heart of rural Wales you could expect to see some livestock around (although not on the campsite). Around the site there are also badgers, foxes, rabbits and bats. Otters and polecats have been spotted along the river as well as herons, ducks, dippers and the occasional kingfisher; other birdlife includes buzzards, red kites, tawny and barn owls. The river teems with migratory fish such salmon and sea trout as well as brown trout and eels and fishing is available on the river. Each tent has its own mini encampment. The main accommodation is a huge 12-person tent lit by battery-powered lanterns with three separate sleeping areas and a large central living atrium. The main sleeping area (for adults) has a Starry Night Deluxe double bed with inflatable mattress and clothes storage. The other two bedrooms have two traditional child campbeds in each compartment, creating comfortable accommodation for up to four children. There is a picnic table outside each tent, a Kadai Firebowl, a hammock and camp chairs. There is a separate utility tent for storage and another for the toilet. One hot shower is shared between the three tents and each tent has its own chemical toilet. There is also a small campsite shop which sells the essentials such as food, toiletries, fuel etc. If you want to cook during your stay, the Kadai Fire bowl is perfect for barbecues and for everything else the campsite provide a gas hob. All cooking, kitchen and dining equipment is provided along with a cool box and ice packs. Water is available via a standpipe on site and there is a washing station for dishes... Also, each tent comes with a welcome hamper which contains some local delicacies as well as tea, coffee, milk, bread, butter, wine and free-range eggs from the campsite own hens! Last but not least, the helpful campsite staff will transport your luggage to your tent at the beginning of your stay and back to your car at the end.

Local attractions

There is a public footpath on the other side of the river which goes downstream to Llanystumdwy, one mile from the campsite, where there is a pub with scrumptious dishes. You should take extreme care when crossing the river on foot and only do so when the water is low, read the safety notices and expect to get wet. You can also go to many other places to enjoy good meals but also do some shopping. First of all, without even going too far, you have the campsite shop selling essentials including food, toiletries, fuel (...), two miles from Dynanau there's Criccieth, a lovely Victorian town with a castle, beaches, traditional high street, pubs and some good restaurants. Alternatively, you can hop to Porthmadog, six miles from the campsite to take the supermarkets by storm for supplies, explore independent shops and have a pit stop by pubs and restaurants. Seven miles from the campsite, Pwllheli as well offers many supermarkets, shops and a market (on Wednesdays). In order to enjoy yourself and have a great time in the area, you can go to several places including Snowdon, 20 miles away from base, beaches such as those at Criccieth, Porthmadog, Pwllheli. (All blue flag) but also castles with the likes of Criccieth, Harlech, Caernarfon. Sailing is available at Pwllheli and both the latter and Porthmadog offer the opportunity to escape with sea fishing trips. To end on a high note, thrill seekers and guests bursting with energy will be happy to know that they can go mountain biking everywhere in the area.
