Views of snowdonia

  • Peaceful, fully serviced North Wales site on the edge of Snowdonia
  • A 10-minute drive to Caernarfon Castle; 20 to Zip World Penrhyn Quarry
  • Table tennis, skittles and pool on site, plus 20 acres to explore
With a magical setting overlooking Eryri (Snowdonia) hills, Rhyd y Galen is a peaceful caravan and camping park in rural North Wales. Fancy exploring the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia), the beautiful North Wales coastline and the Isle of Anglesey? Then this is your place. For your ease, access to the grass camping pitches is via tarmac roads. Generous in size and fully serviced, they come with a whole host of facilities, from a spotless shower block, well lit at night for your convenience and complete with hair dryers to keep you looking your best, to a family-friendly baby-changing unit and a laundry. On hand are 20 acres of land for families (and any canine pals) wanting to be out walking, playing and exploring, and if the kids should get restless, keep them entertained with games of table tennis, table football, skittles or pool. If you need to stock up on groceries, there are several supermarkets in Caernarfon (10 minutes’ drive), and if you fancy making a night of it in the town’s pubs and restaurants, ditch the car and jump in a local taxi.

Shepherd's hut

Liked: We spent a lovely couple of nights in the Shepherd's Hut for my birthday. The hut was beautiful and clean, and tucked away in it's own lovely little private area. It was so peaceful being secluded with our own seating area too. The log burner gets the hut lovely and warm in an evening. We will definitely be back! ☺️

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Location and the convenience of a fully serviced pitch. The toilets and shower block were in very good order and kept clean

Disliked: The only minor comment in this category is the pitch we were given was quite shaded and we had to take our chairs etc across the access road to get a glimmer of sun

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Clean

Disliked: Doesn’t say on website that you have to pay £30 cash for a deposit for the fire pit Had to give our van keys as a deposit as they would point blank refused us to pay with card . Too quiet and nothing to do there for families, would recommend for elderly couples

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback! We're glad you appreciated the cleanliness. We apologize for the confusion regarding the fire pit deposit and the inconvenience with payment options. Your comments about activities for families are valuable, and we’ll take them into consideration. We hope to improve and better meet your expectations in the future.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Very clean and well kept site. Lovely little shower blocks with access to hot water. Good amount of space between each plot so you don’t feel too crowded.

Disliked: Slightly noisy from the traffic at night but this can’t be helped by the site so very understandable.

From the manager: Thank you for your positive feedback! We’re glad you appreciated the cleanliness, space between plots, and the lovely shower blocks. We hope to welcome you back for another stay!

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Very well kept campsite, everything looks beautiful and clean. The pitches are very spacious. The toilets are very clean, and the showers are great with really hot water and water pressure like at home. Also the dog exercizing area is great, really the best we have seen until now.

From the manager: Thank you for your wonderful review! We're delighted to hear you enjoyed the clean and spacious pitches, excellent showers, and the dog exercising area. Your kind words mean a lot to us. We look forward to welcoming you and your furry friend back soon!

Local attractions

Standing where the Afont Seiont river meets the Menai Strait, Caernarfon Castle (10 minutes’ drive) is a forbidding medieval fortress and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Perhaps best known as the place where Prince Charles was invested in 1969, it also houses the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum, which explores the history of this infantry regiment. If you’re in a ‘feel the fear, but do it anyway’ mood, you can head to Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (20 minutes), where the Velocity 2 zipline stretches across a lake, allowing you to travel at speeds of up to 100mph. If you are brave enough to keep your eyes open during your flight, you can also take in splendid views of Eryri (Snowdonia). For something less hair-raising, Portmeirion (40 minutes) is a village featuring Italian-inspired pastel-coloured buildings and lush sub-tropical vegetation. Grab an ice cream from Italian gelateria Caffi’r Angel, and take a leisurely stroll through the quaint streets or along the sandy beach on the Afon Dwyryd estuary.
