  • Quiet family-run park with Snowdonia views, two miles from Caernarfon
  • Within a half-hour drive of Snowdonia, Angelsey and the Llyn Peninsula
  • Family-friendly pub, shop and chip shop 15 minutes' walk away
Mighty scenic are the surrounds of Plas-Y-Bryn Chalet Park, a friendly family-run place a couple of miles outside of Caernarfon...it’s quite possible you could settle here for many an hour simply gazing out at the gorgeous views of Snowdonia National Park (even Snowdon itself peeks into view on a clear day)... Staying put for too long, however, would mean missing out on all the other attractions of this fab corner of north Wales. And very many they are too – as well as Snowdonia hikes, Plas-Y-Bryn is handily located for seaside days on the Llyn Peninsula, a clutch of castles, viewsome railway rides, and all manner of fresh-air activities (take your pick from canoeing, climbing, fishing, horse riding and ziplining depending on your appetite for adrenaline). All accommodation here comes with a fully-equipped kitchen, but should you fancy eating out it’s a 15-minute stroll to the village of Bontnewydd for a chippy supper, or dinner and a pint of ale in the family-friendly local pub.

Local attractions

If you’d like to see Snowdonia National Park more closely, it’ll take you 20 minutes or so to drive over there for hikes, climbs or strolls. Those with a more leisurely time in mind might prefer a ride on the Welsh Highland Railway from Caernarfon or the Ffestiniog Railway, 45 minutes away by car. Should you be more of a beachy type, the Llyn Peninsula and the sands of Pwelheli or Abersoch are half an hour from the site. On less clement days, you can still commune with the sea by visiting the critters at Angelsey Sea Zoo half an hour away. Those with kids in tow will find heaps to keep them happy around here: Gypsy Wood (home to fairies and animals) is a 20-minute walk away, there are castles to conquer in Caernarfon, Conwy and Beaumaris, and Europe’s longest zipline to scare yourself silly on is at Zip World, half an hour away. Sea kayaking, windsurfing and coasteering days can all be had along the nearby coastline; back on dry land, horse riding, golf and dry-slope skiing are popular picks, as are walks on the Wales Coast Path.
