  • Family-friendly site 100 metres from the promenade
  • A 15-minute walk from Barmouth beach; 25 minutes to the town centre
  • Playground and a shop on site; on National Cycle Route 8
Just 100 metres from the sea, Hendre Mynach Caravan and Camping Park is a rather splendid base for a break in northwest Wales. This family-friendly site is a five-minute stroll from Barmouth’s promenade, and sandy Barmouth beach is a pleasant 15 minutes’ walk away – or a quick ride on the small land train that travels up and down the promenade. When you’re not sea fishing from the shore, taking a peaceful paddle or watching the kids bounce on the trampolines on the beach, head to Barmouth Harbour (half an hour’s walk), the departure point for boat trips and off-shore fishing. An amusement park and leisure centre are other entertainment options in town, where foodies will find plenty of cafés and restaurants. Hendre Mynach Caravan and Camping Park is a convivial spot: families, couples, friendly bikers and rallies (outside of peak season, please) are all welcome, as are backpackers and solo travellers (at a discount during low season). There’s a playground for the kids, and keen cyclists are also catered for: National Cycle Route 8 runs past the site. It’s well equipped too, with water on all pitches, washing-up facilities and a modern shower block with shaver points, hairdryer and straighteners. There’s also a launderette, baby-change facilities with a baby bath, Elsan waste disposal points, a drive-on motorhome drain, tarmac roads and CCTV. Helpful staff are available 24 hours a day, gas and wifi are sold at reception, and there’s a shop on site, plus a local bus stop nearby.

What customers say

A great spot near the beach & Barmouth town. Staff are sound, facilities clean but a bit old. Pitches are grand, plenty of hook-ups. Good for families, a quiet stay, and easy on the wallet.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely campsite. Clean, all facilities needed are there. Staff are lovely and helpful.

Disliked Whoever thought putting the non electric field, who are mainly tents, the furthest from the toilets deserves a brain cell.

Thanks to my garmin, I found out to go to the loo and back to my tent was a mile!

Laundry, showers and shop are also the same but I didnt desperately need a shower once I woke up!

From the manager: Thank you for your insult, unfortunately due to the levelness of the site we cannot get drains to non-electric but we are looking at ways around this. You might have got close to a mile If you had to go to the second toilet block rather than the nearest toilet block if it was closed for cleaning, we give everyone the cleaning times when they arrive. The nearest toilet block is approximately 450 / 500 metres from the furthest non-electric pitch, anyone who knows how to camp have a lugaloo.

Electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Massive pitch
Great family site
Easy access to the beach
Nice staff
Water tap on our pitch
Great WiFi
Site was clean and tidy
Clean and roomy showers
Clean toilets
Lovely little shop
Friendly and family atmosphere
Close to Barmouth

Disliked Nothing to really dislike, I’d be picking fault if I tried. Everything was clean and tidy and as you’d expect, somethings were a little dated, but why fix something if it’s not broke? I have no dislikes.

Electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Beautiful beach 5min walk away from pitches, toilets, showers, washing up facilities all clean (for the women the blocks after the reception are the better ones especially for the showers) play park good for kids, pitches flat and have water and hookup together. Small shop with camping essentials and food/drink, staff all really friendly, thanks to the man in the shop, my son had a meltdown and he was very kind. Quiet times at 10pm which I thought was really good. Barmouth within walking distance, about 30minutes walk.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Well organised, great pitches, proximity to beach and local things to do.

Disliked We were based on the "non electric tent" field, which is one of, if not the furthest from the toilet and pot washing facilities. Given that most motorhomes etc would come with their own toilets and sinks, it doesn't feel quite right that they are closer to the toilets than the tents are.

Electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Used to visit the site as a child so picked it mainly for the proximity to the beach.

Staff were friendly also and was safe for my son to ride around on his bike around the site.

Also the wifi was spot on!

Disliked Not so much a dislike and I don't know if this is a regular thing with campsites, the electric runs off 10 amps, like I say I don't know if this is a general thing for all campsites but if not could benefit having a bit more power for other electrical items.

Also in general the toilets were OK cleanliness, however what I saw on one of the toilet brushes was unholy and it looked like it had been there a while. But its a camping toilet block and I'm not expecting the ritz (like i say i only saw this one out of all the cubicles)

Local attractions

The burial site of Cors y Gedol (10 minutes’ drive) dates from about 4000 BC. Not much is left of the original stone mound, but the sea views alone are well worth the hike, plus you can push on to climb the slopes of Moelfre from here. If mountains are your thing, check out Penygader (35 minutes) and Snowdon (50 minutes), Wales’s highest peak. Got your mountain bike with you? Coed y Brenin Forest Park (half an hour) has eight purpose-build trails catering to all abilities and a skills area to practise your bunny hops, plus hiking paths taking in ruined copper mines, viewpoints and waterfalls. Speaking of which, at Dolgoch Falls (45 minutes), forested trails take you up close and personal to the cascades. At the Italianate-style village of Portmeirion (35 minutes), elegant architecture, pastel-coloured houses and lush subtropical gardens will have you believe you’re in Portofino. Stop for afternoon tea and don’t forget to buy some pottery.
