  • Rural park on an equestrian farm edging the scenic Shropshire Hills
  • A 10-minute drive from Knighton for access to the Offa’s Dyke Path
  • Stables and kennels on site for hols with your horse and dog
The soundtrack to a stint at Cleobury Camping? The clip-clop of horses. This site’s on an equestrian farm, and guests are welcome to bring their steeds along for riding breaks in rural mid-Wales. Ask the dog if they’d like a break too as there’s space for well-behaved pups at this park in Heyop, 10 minutes’ drive from Knighton, with kennels and stabling available for an extra fee. Fancy organising riding lessons, guided hacks on the open hill and bridleways, and show-jumping sessions in the arena while here? Simply get in touch with the owners in advance using the information provided in your booking details. You could also ride – or roam – to the nearest shop, around three miles away, and towards a pub and restaurant a mile down the road. A bit of pottering along the Offa’s Dyke Path from nearby Knighton wouldn’t go amiss either, a market town that's also home to a heritage centre, the Heart of Wales railway and a bevy of beer festivals held throughout the year. This small settlement also has a local leisure centre for playing tennis, bowls and other sports, along with a fair few eateries and drinking holes. Other options for meals while staying at the park include picking up produce from the farm shop on site (think eggs, meats and raw milk) and firing up the barbecue. The setup on site has a back-to-basics vibe – there's no electricity or showers here, but there is a portable toilet available. As for more ways to while away your time, country pursuits like golf, clay pigeon shooting, racing at a rally school, and game and coarse fishing are accessible close by.

Local attractions

This park is in the Welsh county of Powys, just a short skip across the border from England’s Shropshire Hills, a scenic area for strolls. Once you’ve meandered along the Offa’s Dyke Path (10 minutes’ drive), which roughly traces the line between the two countries, venture further on to cultural highlights like Clun Castle (25 minutes), a ruin placed on a rocky promontory above a river. Stanage Park (15 minutes) is another swish structure to admire in the area, a Grade II-listed country house in a large park planned out in the early 19th century. After poking around landmarks from the past, turn your attention to what’s in the sky at The Spaceguard Centre (15 minutes), a working observatory where astronomy experts teach visitors about the solar system. Placed as it is in the rural Welsh Marches, its setting is spot-on for staring at the stars without interference from artificial light sources.
