  • Scenic and remote-feeling Mid Wales glamping site
  • Clywedog Reservoir and Snowdonia walks within a 45-minute drive
  • Proper beds and firepit for each unit; communal cooking/eating lodge
Adventure awaits at Cledan Valley, hidden away in what the owners describe as ‘the wilds of Mid Wales’ – this is the kind of peaceful rural place that’s all about letting the kids build dens, hunt for bugs and follow treasure hunts, or simply for the grownups to chill out and soak up the spectacular green scenery that this area is known for. And comfort awaits too, because the glamping units at this Powys smallholding have been set up to provide cosy and comfy stays for all guests – proper beds, cooking facilities, lanterns and pretty furnishings come as standard, whichever unit you pick. Outside, each one has a barbecue/firepit with firewood provided, and you’ll also be able to use the communal lodge, which has a covered cooking/eating area as well as plenty of games and toys for the kids. Bathroom facilities have been nicely done out, as well – the shared toilet block has flushing toilets and a compost toilet along with powerful hot showers fed by spring water. There’s also a disabled-access wetroom, and the whole lot is cleaned daily to keep it in tiptop shape. There’s a real rural vibe here, with gorgeous green views all around and llamas, ducks and chickens to meet on site. It’s not quite as remote as you might think, however – in fact, it’s easily accessed from the A470 a mile away. Your nearest pub and food shop are in Carno, 35 minutes' walk away. The nearby villages of Caersws and Llanbrynmair (both 15 minutes’ drive) have more pubs and shops.

Tawny Owl bell tent

Liked: The campsite was so peaceful and we loved that we had so much space to ourselves. The kids loved having our own fire pit and the owners were so helpful starting a fire for me (as I didn’t have a clue how to!) which meant we were able to enjoy roasted marshmallows :) The tipi was lovely and clean and the beds were surprisingly comfy! The kids loved the treasure hunt, the swing and the games on site. The shower was clean, spacious and so warm. We didn’t manage to see the animals, as my little girl wanted to stay and play on site, but the owners did come round and ask everyone if they wanted to head down. Shame we missed out but next time we come, we definitely will go and see them! The kids loved using the wheelbarrow to transport all our things as an added novelty :) The site had everything we needed in our outdoor kitchen and if there was anything missing, the shop was only a short drive away.

Disliked: Not a criticism of the site at all, it’s just nature but the driveway to the site was very rocky and bumpy and definitely an experience in itself getting up it but we made it :)

Red Kite yurt

Liked: Lovely holiday, we stayed in the Red kite Yurt with 2 young children (5 & 2yr old) The Kids loved the bunkbeds, the little play house and the treasure hunt. My husband loved the log burner and the sound of owls at night. I loved the Yurt it’s self! Facilities were all clean, there was a potty for the 2 yr old & all the staff were very friendly. Thank you

Tawny Owl bell tent

Liked: As a first time camper with the family it was a really nice setting with all the stuff we needed without worrying about what to take. We really enjoyed the stay and slept great and lovely to see the alpacas and lamas. We knew there was no electricity, wifi and limited phone signal in parts of site with some having no signal at all. This did not bother us too greatly and plenty of games to play outdoors.

Goshawk bell tent

Liked: The camping is in a beautiful area which is almost off grid. The tents are placed quite far so the occupants don't disturb eachother. The beds were comfortable and spacious in the tent and the cooking facilities were also very good. All plates, pans and utensils were available. Please be mindful about the lack of sockets in the camping. Most facilities are fuelled by solar power and there is no phone charging point. In the Goshawk tent area there is no phone signal at all.

Disliked: The toilet, washing up area could do with some general TLC to look more organised but nothing major.

Otter bell tent

Liked: We absolutely loved staying at this place, so much to like! -Location, perfect. We were in Otter Bell Tent. River next to us and plenty of space for the kids to run around. -Pit fire, kitchen area, esky, water bottle - all well organised. Everything available you would need. -Very friendly owners, happy to help with anything. Shown us around the aplacas and llamas and let's not forget the chickens.. the kids loved this! -Great walks. -Feeling of peacefulness and tranquility. -Great communal area, the kids called it the playhouse and loved it there. -Rope swing. Lovely family memories made.

Disliked: Not much.. the main shower didn't seem to heat up whilst I was there (only 2 days) so used the disabled one. It wasn't a big bother. No dramas, we loved it!

Goshawk bell tent

Liked: Everything was great! Accommodation was brilliant and location of the bell tent was lovely and we could hear the stream which was really relaxing and also felt private and had everything you could possibly need in the campers kitchen! Showers were really powerful and warm! Toilet facilities were easy accessible. Owners of the site were really helpful and a pleasure to meet, the treasure hunts were great also, but we didn’t get round to the adults one so we will be coming back for this challenge! and to meet the llamas!
