Combining rural hideaway with a touch of luxury, Wern Meadow Glamping is on a family-run working hill farm set among gorgeous Mid Wales countryside 15 minutes’ drive from Llandrindod Wells in Powys. Family-friendly accommodation is in spacious bell tents sleeping up to six guests, attractively laid out with cheery rugs and bed linen in a mix of double beds and futons, a woodburning stove and bedside storage. Basics like mugs and a kettle are also supplied. Outside, each tent has its own private decking with a picnic bench, parasol and barbecue (one free bag of wood is provided), all the better for soaking up the peaceful rural views. Private showers and loos are found in wooden huts steps away from each tent, and as the pitches are off-grid, do remember to pack torches for moving around after dark. Once settled in, you can meet the resident pygmy goats and Shetland ponies (and perhaps their young too). Do also keep a lookout for bats, rabbits, hares, hedgehogs and the occasional fox or badger when you’re on site; they all thrive in the surrounding centuries-old broadleaf woodland – and be prepared to wake up to a very loud dawn chorus indeed…
