  • Wildlife haven in the peaceful Ceredigion countryside
  • A 15-minute drive from New Quay and 20 from the National Wool Museum
  • Five minutes by car to a pub or post office; near the Wales Coast Path
As you wend your way along the coast of west Wales, make time to stop for a breather at this secluded rural spot. Wild Meadow Camping is a peaceful Ceredigion site at the end of a quiet country lane just under a mile from Plwmp, with pitches spread around a meadow that's been planted up with native plants and trees to create a proper wildlife haven. This is the sort of place where you can watch red kites soar through the skies, see swallows swoop over the field and spot dragonflies hovering in the undergrowth. Foxes, badgers and rabbits are regular visitors too, and there's a little stream running through the site to top it all off. The facilities are more than adequate on this small-scale site – you'll have access to two shower rooms, two separate toilets and a washing-up area, all of which are kept clean and are well-maintained. Barbecues can be had but must be lifted clear of the grass (it's best to have a chat about this with someone on site before you get cooking). This area is popular with walkers, who often head for the Wales Coast Path (about 10 minutes' drive away). The pretty Teifi river also runs through nearby small towns like Llandysul and Newcastle Emlyn (both 15 minutes) if you fancy exploring the hinterland.

Electric hardstanding and grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely rural location, very quiet and off the main road, dark skies where you can see the stars. Amazing bird song in the morning and evening. Andy is knowledgeable and welcoming and stood out in the road to make sure I found the entrance. He made sure I knew where everything was, and told me I could text any time for help. I regularly saw him on the site helping others, cleaning up and mowing. Could not wish for a more passionate host. The toilet block is immaculate, regularly cleaned, and the guests courteous enough to keep it that way between cleans. There are 4 toilets and two showers which felt generous for a site of this size. It’s 5 miles from a great beach along quiet roads if you want to walk, run or cycle. I’ll be back later in the season to see the meadow in bloom!

Disliked: Nothing.

Liked: Super friendly welcome from Andy and a well appointed, beautifully unspoilt location near to some of the best beaches in Wales. We were stargazing from our pitch and were able to see the Milky Way! Highly recommended and we will be going back.

Electric hardstanding and grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Wow! What a beautiful campsite. From the moment we booked we had fantastic communication from Andy, the campsite owner. He was there to greet us on arrival and to show us our pitch - very spacious, close to the water pump and electric. The facilities are sparkling clean! Andy's knowledge of the area and recommendations absolutely made our weekend - the weather was naff and we'd debated going home after the first night, however Andy convinced us to stick it out and I'm so glad we did! We saw dolphins, went on a boat trip, to the beautiful beach in Llanngranog and for a gorgeous meal at The Brewery - all of which Andy recommended. The campsite itself was very family friendly, with a gorgeous stream for the children to play in and with cows to see! We will definitely be returning, hopefully with better weather next year! No WiFi however this is exactly what you want when camping!

Electric hardstanding and grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Wonderful helpful hosts, from helping pitch a tent, to local knowledge. Extremely quiet location that is superbly pretty and well kept. Shower block amenities are spotlessly clean. Brilliant added touch of a small washing up station with provided washing up liquid. Separate bins for general rubbish, recycling and glass. Drinking water available. Electric hookups on each tent pitch, along with hard standing for one vehicle. Hosts meet you at entry gate and help get you settled. Very friendly too! The best bit about this campsite is no dogs and observed quiet times! Phone signal - I'm with EE and had full 4G coverage on pitch 10.

Local attractions

For a chance to sail the ocean blue, make for New Quay (15 minutes' drive), where offshore angling trips can be booked at the harbour. Fisherfolk aren't the only ones who come here in search of mackerel – families of bottlenose dolphins can often be seen carving up the waves across Cardigan Bay. Back on land, New Quay Honey Farm (15 minutes) is worth dropping by if you've got a sweet tooth (curious kids can watch the bees busily making the wares behind a glass screen). This being Wales, there are also several top-tier fortifications around, including the rugged ruins of Newcastle Emlyn Castle (15 minutes) and Cilgerran Castle (30 minutes) with its chunky towers. Cardigan Castle (30 minutes) is well worth visiting too; there's also an eight-mile circular walk connecting Cilgerran to Cardigan if you fancy ticking off both. Those with an interest in fab Welsh fabrics, meanwhile, might want to pay a visit to the National Wool Museum (20 minutes), a nicely informative attraction that walks you through the machines, textiles and history with an array of hands-on displays. Sleeping bag not as warm as you thought? Pick up a cosy souvenir in the museum shop.
