  • Glamping on an eight-acre estate two miles from the Ceredigion coast
  • A 20-minute drive from Cardigan and 10 minutes from Llangrannog beach
  • Vintage circus caravan with luxury fittings and private bathroom
It's fair to say that Ffynnon Fendigaid is nothing short of fab: this glamping site in the Ceredigion countryside is in a peaceful, private corner of an eight-acre estate, a couple of miles from the coast and a 20-minute drive from the towns of Llandysul and New Quay. There’s heaps to do in the surrounding area as well, whether you choose to get active with walks on the coast path, canoe outings and coasteering or dial it down a notch with wildlife-spotting boat trips, castle wanders, beach days and vintage railway rides. With golf and sea kayaking on offer in the town of Cardigan (20 minutes away) too, this area's a hub for active types. Your base for all these antics will be the comfy and cosy Dolly, a circus wagon that once housed travelling entertainers. Now that she’s been retired and restored, she lives out her days next to a little lawn and outdoor table with prime potential for picnics and barbecue cookouts. Beyond here, there’s plenty of space to roam while taking in the property’s pond, ancient well, wild woodland and flower-filled gardens. Inside, Dolly’s been done up to a high standard: her interior houses a double bedroom, a fully-equipped kitchen, a dining table, sofas and lots of colourful retro furnishings. Parked up alongside her is a separate shepherd’s hut that contains a private luxury bathroom with a shower and separate dressing area.

Local attractions

Jump in the car for five minutes to the Sculptureheaven outdoor park and spy the offbeat stone and wood-carved art, then travel for 10 minutes to the sandy beaches of Llangrannog, Aberporth and Penbryn on the west Wales coast. Inland, the Teifi Valley Railway (15 minutes) takes visitors through the country’s lush green scenery, and you may like to stop at Cenarth Falls (20 minutes) to witness the spectacular sight of salmon spawning upstream in autumn. It would be mad to miss out on seeing some of Europe’s best castles on your roams around Wales, so get over to Cilgerran (20 minutes) for the ruins of an atmospheric 13th-century structure overlooking the Teifi Gorge. Sticking with the Welsh theme, the National Wool Museum (20 minutes) is an ode to the craft of using yarn (hurrah – entry’s free). You might need to dig in your wallet a little for a visit to the John Nash-designed Llanerchaeron National Trust estate, 25 minutes away, but it’s worth it for wanders in the walled garden and around the ornamental lake.
