  • Peaceful, basic Ceredigion countryside camping near Aberaeron beach
  • A 10-minute drive to the Wales Coast Path; Cae Hir Gardens 15 minutes
  • Well-stocked coarse fishing lake and wildlife ponds on site
Coast or countryside? No real need to choose at Tynrhos Camping and Fishing, as it’s set in scenic rural Ceredigion and yet is only 15 minutes’ drive from the sea at lovely harbour-side Aberaeron. With ample space on level, tree-sheltered camping fields for tents and tourers, this peaceful, no-frills site has level pitches and is centred around several ponds that are popular with passing wild animals. As you’re pottering about, chances are you’ll spot some of that plentiful wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for red kites and buzzards soaring overhead, herons on the ponds and woodpeckers flitting among the trees. And anglers – listen up, because here’s a treat for you. Central to the site is a one-acre fishing lake well-stocked with carp, tench and perch. Landings are available to hire for anyone with a valid fishing licence. The site owners are on hand to make your stay as relaxing and easy as possible; a fairly basic shower block (but one with plenty of hot water) is available and there’s a communal fridge so you can keep foodstuff fresh.

Electric grass and gravel campervan pitch

Liked: Liked the people who owned the site very friendly and helpful, we relaxed fishing for the day just the donkey next door did make a noise over all 4 which has put us off going again

Disliked: It was very Muddie and wet under foot draining wasn't great off the field I know we've had a lot of rain but it's very boggy. Donkey next door woke us up at 5 o'clock every morning then went on though out the day.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Glad you enjoyed most elements of your stay. Unfortunately, being sited in the remote countryside, there isn’t much we can do if a neighbouring farm happen to have a donkey. Most people find Patrick amusing, but clearly he isn’t to everyone’s liking. We are surprised that cleanliness is only 8/10 as we pride ourselves on keeping everything spotless so we can only presume it was something to do with the torrential rain you experienced for a lot of your stay. We are very disappointed you won’t be staying with us again as, until this point, every single visitor has said they would return and indeed many have already, but you can’t be everyone’s perfect site. Andrew and Sharon

Local attractions

Seaside Aberaeron (15 minutes’ drive) not only has brightly painted Georgian houses but is also home of the nearest beach – a long sandy stretch that's great for rockpooling. Something of a gourmet centre these days, the town also has a pretty harbour dotted with pubs and restaurants as well as shops selling seafood straight from the dockside and locally made ice creams. If stately homes are more your scene, head for the Georgian-era treasure at National Trust - Llanerchaeron, with its John Nash-designed house and walled kitchen gardens. Other gorgeously planted gardens to discover include Cae Hir (15 minutes), with ornamental areas and a wildlife area. Set in an ancient chapel, New Quay Honey Farm (25 minutes) holds exhibitions on beekeeping and produces mead and honey to taste and buy. If you’d rather explore the area on two legs, long-distance walkers can join the Wales Coast Path (10 minutes) for wild Irish Sea views (keep a watch for the famous dolphin pod in Cardigan Bay) and yomps along clifftops.
