  • Quiet Mid Wales coastal campsite overlooking spectacular Cardigan Bay
  • Walking distance to Mwnt Beach; Castell Henllys half an hour’s drive
  • Family site with a play park, animals to meet and a well-stocked shop
With sweeping views over Cardigan Bay – home of a well-known dolphin pod – peaceful, family-run Blaenwaun Caravan Park is set on an organic beef and arable farm 15 minutes’ drive north of Cardigan in Mid Wales. This quiet spot overlooks the gorgeous National Trust-owned Mwnt Beach, which can be reached via a bridleway from the site. This coastal caravan park is a great base for the whole family; there’s a fantastic play area on the edge of the camping field (so parents can keep an eye on their offspring from the pitches), and there’s masses of room for ball games, kite flying or riding bikes. As if that’s not enough, youngsters can feed pot-bellied pigs, Jemima the goat and Pippi the pony, while pet ducks have a free run of the place. Access the Ceredigion Coast Path from the site (bring any dogs with you for seaside walkies), and give alfresco cooking on the barbecue a go too. There’s a well-stocked shop on site, selling fresh bread, milk, free-range eggs and farm-produced organic beef, as well as gifts and camping essentials. To make life even easier, electric hook-ups are available, and you can use the basic kitchen equipment (microwave, kettle, fridge and toaster) in the laundry room. The facilities block has a disabled shower room and baby-changing facility too.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Really friendly campsite - greeted quickly on arrival by the owner who explained where all the facilities were and walked us to our pitch.

Useful little shop - open twice a day for an hour but well stocked with essentials.

Quiet and calm campsite with no noise after 10pm. Great park for the children which my 8 year old spent every possible minute playing at!

Clean and tidy toilet and shower block which was cleaned regularly and well looked after. Light sensors a bit short timed though, as went dark twice whilst I was showering!! Showers hot and lovely!

Great location - Easily accessible to lots of coastal towns and villages, plus Cardigan etc. Not far from Aberystwyth.

Disliked Nothing really!

Electric grass pitch

Liked Location and views are stunning. Nice flat large pitches with good playground and free WiFi. Campsite kept very clean and very small convenient shop onsite which is good. Freezer, fridge, kettle, washing machines, tumble dryers and jobs on the kitchen available to use.

Disliked Shower/toilet facilities are not the best. 3 toilets in the ladies and one doesnt lock so when it got to the weekend 2 toilets for a lot of people was a not enough.
Showers cubicles are like swimming pool ones so to get dressed after without getting clothers wet is impossible. One family/disabled wet room which is much better space wise.
Stayed for 5 nights and didn’t see a food cart like others did.

Clean shower and toilet facilities and use of utility room
Great park for the kids

Not sure if there is an easier walk to the beach through the fields? We walked the road way.

Electric grass pitch

Liked We’ve stayed at so many campsites over the years but this has got to be my favourite. The view is incredible and we had some of the most spectacular sunsets. Large pitches, great playground, clean bathroom facilities, free (really good) WiFi, laundry (with a kitchen area - including a hob, large fridge, freezer, lots of washing up sinks), well stocked shop (open twice a day). Owners were really friendly. The whole site is arranged really nicely which encourages a sort of social neighbourly atmosphere. You can keep an eye on kids whilst giving them space to be free. My kids (12 and 14) happily played hide and seek with all of the other kids (some really little). It was like playing out in the street in the 80s!

20 minute walk to Mwnt beach, close to a Tesco and Aldi in Aberteifi. Loads to see in the area too.

We never return to the same campsite twice but I think we’ll make an exception and return next year!

Local attractions

Cardigan Bay is home to a myriad of marine wildlife. Migrating dolphins can often be seen offshore, and there are numerous boat trips departing St Dogmaels (15 minutes’ drive) to view harbour porpoises, Atlantic grey seals and the resident pod of bottled-nosed dolphins. Sporty types will fit right in here too. Golfers can make a beeline for the 18-hole championship course at Gwbert (10 minutes), and there are three other courses within about 20 minutes’ drive. Sailing aficionados can hire boats in Gwbert, and riders explore the countryside on horseback from the local equestrian centre (20 minutes). For a change of pace, learn about local history with a visit to the Benedictine monastery ruins in St Dogmaels, or have a nose around the mighty towers and ramparts of 13th-century Cilgerran Castle (20 minutes). Travel back in time to Castell Henllys (half an hour), a carefully reconstructed Iron Age settlement, and take a walk up to the prehistoric burial monument at Pentre lfan (half an hour).
